World Of Warcraft 'more addictive than crack cocaine'

'It is the crack cocaine of the computer gaming world. Some people are literally unable to drag themselves away and will play it till they drop.'

The warning comes after a Swedish boy of 15 collapsed and went into convulsions after playing it for for 24 hours last year.

His family rushed him into hospital where doctors diagnosed an epileptic-type seizure brought on by sleep deprivation, lack of food, and too long a stretch of concentrated game playing.

I would like to know how these "experts" know it's more addictive than blow.  Did they do some "field research" or something?  lol  :hyper:    That's just such a random comparison.

I play WoW...I enjoy the game and have met some good people in game. It can be addicting for the wrong people. I make sure that I spend time away from the game (and computer for that matter) so it doesn't take over my life...as with all things in life moderation is the key. One thing I have to wonder in the case of the 15 year old is where the parents were when he was in his 24 hour stretch? They bear some responsability for his condition, not restricting his time on the computer.

I play City of Heroes. Black Falconn level 33. Modern city. Super Villains. Giant Robots. Comic goodness.
Its pretty much the same thing except all the thousands of players don't look like cookie cutters, they are all unique heroes and heroines.
you can even play a villain, and there are zones that I haven't played in where heroes and villains duke it out.

City of Heroes/Villians (CoH/V) is a great game...played both since May 1st, 2004 till last November. Character generator is fantastic...you can spend hours just designing costumes for your hero/villian. The big problem with the game, and one that you haven't run into yet as you haven't hit level 50, is there is no end game like WoW. In WoW the journey doesn't end when you hit level 80. There is still a lot to do in-game at that point. In CoH/V when you hit max level, it's one raid that lags horribly or Player vs. Player...that's it. I found that once I had a hero and villian at max level there was nothing in game to keep me interested...felt like I'd seen it all and done it all. With WoW, I have 1 toon at 80 (a Death Knight) and still am having a blast with her.

By the way, what server are you on in CoH? I was on Freedom when I played.

I'm on Triumph. I've been taking screenshots of Black Falconn for a parody website I wanna build.
Essentially, BF does everything except fight crime. BF is a big believer in corporate sponsorships, and spend more time with her investment portfolio than at police station briefings.
BTW, Black Falcon is a gal. The camera setting is just behind the toon. But I figure if I'm gonna look at someone's but all day, I might as well enjoy it.

Sometimes being a hero is just holding a helpful flashlight for a couple of guys who lost their keys.

 
Here she takes a break from the fighting to call the city and let them know the damage to the dam (and the resultant flood) isn’t her fault.

But I do agree. I played WOW for a bit and was underwhelmed. COH is my schitck cause as a kid I was totally into superheroes.

I've never really been into video games much.  I dated that guy that was really into them.  I couldn't see the fun in Gears of War and Halo.  Just not my thing.  But then I got the Wii and I really enjoy games like Lego Batman and Lego Star Wars.  That guy when Halo 3 came out, bought it at midnight or whatever, then stayed up all night playing it.  Also, not my thing.  I'll play my game a little bit but can easily go a day or two without playing it.

I played CoH for awhile but got bored with the repetitiveness of it. (cookie cutter instances)
At least with WoW, you'll "find" odd missions to run. One I came across (this morning) was an "escort" misson. You had to help a young girl get her pet bunny to a near-by outpost before the wolves got it. It was kinda funny. At the end a wolf grabs the rabbit and shakes it all over the place. If you kill the wolf in time it drops the rabbit and all is ok. (sorry Patrmy, I was successful  :tongue:)
 The reward for the mission was a pretty good piece of armor, 20K XP, and about 10 gold. Not bad for a 2-3 min mission.

I've also seen, with different names, Bambi, Thumper, Flower and Bambi's mother. It's called "Mr Floppy's Perilous Adventure" (I think). It's near Westfall Brigade at an outpost. The little girl is inside the main building. (reward is 5g if you get XP)
I love the references to pop culture in the game, there's a Haris Pilton who sells outrageously priced "stuff". Pretty funny.
