I told her that if we had had a little more regulation on the financial sector, we wouldn't be in the middle of a meltdown right now. She says, yeah, but they're hurting the working man by raising taxes on him. I told her that's right, Reagan moved the taxes from the richest 2% in this country onto those who pay payroll taxes, but Obama just gave the largest tax cut in the history of this nation and he gave most of it to the working class. We went around and around, with her giving the latest Repug talking points. Finally, after countering each one of her talking points with FACTS, I told her that all of this stuff sounded like it was coming from Fox News, which I like to call Faux News. That was it, she was having no more, and walked away. Attacking her precious Faux News was more than she could take. And, by the way, we had an audience, which is the way I always like it. She might have her mind closed, but the audience doesn't always.

Oh, another good example of a zulu, when a primitive has an unpleasant encounter with a decent and civilized person, and it doesn't end happily enough for the primitive.

18. I call it being patriotic. You call it being held up in line.
I think that we all have an obligation, as citizens of this country to inform ourselves and others of the facts. Sometimes that happens in the middle of the day, in the middle of our lives. If it holds you up in the grocery store, I'm sorry. It is my obligation as a citizen of this country to take care of my fellow citizens; if that costs you some of your ignorance and some of your time, that's a small price to pay. I'm not saying that I have all of the answers, or that mine are any better than yours, but when I see someone spouting ignorance and lies, I'm going to call them on it. Don't like it? Move to a country that doesn't allow free speech.

She didn`t add the part about how everyone in line was cheering her on and smiling at her unless it is later in the thread.

Someone over there really should give her the proper script for this particular story line.

As an extremely unorganized shopper, I spend more time in checkout lines than I would like and at many different stores.  I have never heard people discussing politics the way these dummies seem to encounter all the time.

Generally, the only talking I hear in checkout lines is a harried mother talking to her children.

Frank highlighted this paragraph and I'm so glad he did.  How have I lived my entire life without the presence of this particular dummie to inform me of the "facts?"  She's so right.  It is her obligation as a citizen of this country to "take care" of her fellow citizens so that they might be less ignorant.  And really, what's a few minutes of wasted time to learn what she calls facts?

Come on - she admits she doesn't have all the answers but if we all have a big group hug while she's trying to educate us, that should make everything okay.

Just keep an extra tight grip on your wallets and purses.

How many damn taxes do those idiots think the rich should pay? They're already paying MOST of the damn taxes in the country as it is.

Oh, and Melanie? ALL taxes are going up when he lets the Bush tax cuts expire, you dumb bitch.

I discussed politics with my brother while he was here visiting the other week.  It took all of five seconds.

Me: "I can't believe this idiot is our President."

Him: "Yep."

We were at home.  The only audience was a couple of dogs and as far as I know, they're not registered to vote in this state.

Well damn it... register them to vote.  If dead people can vote in Chicago, why can't your dogs?

Just do the absentee ballot for them.

So I guess what really happened is the person in front of her was looking at the cover of the National Enquirer and remarked to the checkout clerk that it wasn't a very flattering picture of the president and they both had a little chuckle about it. That is until Ms. Know-It-All corncob up her twat came unglued and started going off on them about insulting the greatest president who ever lived, a true savior bringing hope and change and who is smart enough to make pretty speeches, give money to help poor Hamas dudes who are SO poor they can't even afford suicide belts, and tax the rich (well except liberal ones) instead of being stupid and getting himself crucified on a cross like that other stupid savior! It's a good thing she's so tolerant otherwise she'd probably have to call the secret service and tell them Obamassiah's life was being threatened by right wing nut jobs who read those filthy supermarket rags.

Look, DUmmie, there were calls for more regulation and oversight... they came from the right.  Your side said "all is well", and then Barney Frank went home to get ****ed in the ass by a guy he was supposed to have oversight on.  No conflict of interest there, huh?

H5 for the point, and add Chris Dodd to the list.  IIRC, Senate rules at the time (and currently) allow a single Senator to put a "hold" on any bill that he doesn't like--and that bill never sees the Senate floor.  The "holder" can remain anonymous, but it was pretty obvious who the Senator who put the hold on the bill was.  (Hint for lurking DUmb****s--it wasn't John McCain, because he sponsored the bill.)
