Having grown up in the far north, I was in my 20's when I finally met some people from the 'deep' south. They referred, in conversation, to some pals back home as 'coon-ass'. Don't know its origin but I took it as derogatory since it got a laugh from all in the room, except me..

Considering Jindal is right up there with the dream ticket of Palin & the Plumber, and you all know how I despise that woman, I thought I'd offer a nickname for Jindal, straight from a flashback of my youth.

Still don't know what it means though, but I hope its nasty & descript, cuz Jindal is an ass.

having lived in west central Louisiana for four years, coon-ass is a term of some pride.  It generally means someone from the swamps/bayous of Louisiana, some extreme coon-asses will say that anyone from west of the Sabine River, north of I-10, or east of the Mississippi would be a cracker.

Blue collar working class cajuns ok with being called coon ass. The Upper crust white collar cajuns tend to take umbrage to the term.

Oh, you guys in the South must read coon ass differently than I (northeast).  We consider it a derogatory term for a black person, just one notch above the N word.  I had a bumper sticker once a long time ago that said "I love Maine Coons."  (a type of cat).  My mom's friend said "I didn't know there were any coons in Maine."  It was considered mildly scandalous to say.  Funny, though. 

Anyway, if these DUhs adopt that one, they may some trouble brewing.

Yup as well as just plain stupid.  They obviously have never driven around in this neck of the woods and seen the bumper stickers proclaiming the driver to be "Coon Ass and Proud" or simply "Coon Ass".
