Man calls 911 to report drunk driving...His own!

that's the thing about alcohol.  it makes the dumbest shit seem totally reasonable. :-)

Quote
Man calls 911 to report drunk driving...His own!
The man called 911 to inform authorities he was too drunk to drive.

(UPI) - A Pennsylvania man called 911 to inform authorities he was too drunk to drive and was pulling his car over as a precaution, state police allege.

An unidentified state police trooper said in a report that John Wilson, 26, of Knox, was arrested in the parking lot of a gas station in Sligo at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

"(Mr.Wilson) related that he had left the bar and was on his way home when he realized he was too drunk to make it home," the state trooper alleged.

The Post-Gazette said police were awaiting the results of a blood-alcohol test before officially charging Wilson with driving under the influence.

Not advocating drunk driving but Instead of charging the dude they should have just given the guy a ride home & thanking him for putting public safety first.
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

My first thought was no way is that kind of thing just isn't going to happen these days because a 911 call is public record. But in PA, it isn't, according to a quick check I made, unlike FL (with the caller's name and address deleted).

Groups like MADD get information that a police officer gave a guy a break like that, and they'll be all over him.

While 911 calls may not be public records, I still think that drunk driving is almost a certainty if a perp is drunk and driving and is caught. Zero tolerance these days for that, mostly because of politics.

The days where a cop would give a guy a ride home after having imbibed too much are long gone. They'd rather arrest the guy, impound his car, take his driver's license, force him to spend a couple nights in jail, and then, after his court case is heard, fine him a couple of grand, plus court costs.

Somebody's got to pay for those lessons in how to conduct public intoxication assessments!

I do agree that it's unconscionable these days for somebody to be arrested for drunk driving, given all the cultural shifts over the past 30 years or so, but it happens every day.  :mental:

It's been rumored that here in my city, they prefer to charge folks with Public Intoxication vs DWI. The main reason being that the city gets to keep ALL of the money as a result of that arrest vs only a little of the money resulting in a DWI because the county court handles the DWI charged folks.

I'm sure they go with something a little richer than PI. Normally pled down to something along the lines of Wreckless driving or the such. Yea keep that fine as high as possible while also keeping the majority of the revenue generated local.

The founder of MADD, Candy Lightner left because of that. She did also work with the alcohol trade group.

I am sorta torn.  If he could call the cops, he could have called a taxi.  I suspect he was so far gone he was thinking he could get the cops to be a free taxi home.

But at least he stopped and I am sure the Judge will take that into consideration.

It's often about the money isn't it.

I have heard of everyone in the car being arrested for DWI, just in case...even those in the back seat!

It might not stick but costs everyone a few bucks and time off work for the defense. Of course, it's not really smart to be in a car that an intoxicated person is dirving in the first place, but people do silly things when they drink.  :cheersmate:

Some people do that when they drink I guess.

I'm not sure, I don't really drink.
