Use to be a democrat

Hello, My name is John and I am from Arlington Heights, IL. I use to be a democrat.....then I turned the radio on to AM looking for NPR(Shocking right?) and instead I found WIND Am560 and Michael Savage of the Savage Nation. I listen to him whenever I can. I started listening to him about 6 months ago. I even read some of his books such as "Liberalist is a Mental Disorder". I read Mike Gallagher's book "Surrounded by Idiots", and I have to say I was no longer a democrat because everything these two gentlemen said makes sense. The following are some of the things I believe in:

*Abortion is murder! However the Constitution of the United States of America does not say anything about it so Roe Vs. Wade should be overturned because the Constitution does not give or take away any provision for Abortion. It should go to each individual state.
*Marriage in my belief is defined as A man and a woman. However the Constitution of the United States of America Does not define who can mary who. This is theorlogical issue. Not a government deciding who can or cannot marry issue. This also should be decided by each individual state. In my belief gay marriage is not about marriage at all, but instead it is the attempted destruction of the family unit as defined by the Holy Bible, and since we all know Socialism/Communism tends to be atheism in their spiritual(or lack there of) view so I can see why destruction of the family unit is necessary for socialist revolution.
*Gays in the military. On this I believe that if they can defeat American enemies in battle and dont foster their sexual preference on others who dont want it then by all means gays in the militray is fine as long as they have a separate bathroom. I know this is reminiscent of blacks of using a black water fountain but this is completely different. I mean what straight man wants to go to the same bathroom as a gay man? He would feel uncomfortable right? In this regard segregation IS necessary.
*Firearms. The Construtution of the United States of America says as american citizens we can keep and bear firearms. This right should NEVER be taken away from us. It is our line of defence against a corrupt government and when a criminal comes into our homes uninvited to do us harm. Our current president has stated that he feels NO one should be alowed to own a gun. However, I do believe certain types of weapons should be banned from civilian possession such as automatic rifles that fire bullets at an extremely high rate of fire. Felons should never be allowed to obtain a firearm and those with a history of mental illness(Like the university shootings over the last few years) should not be allowed to obtain a gun.
*Immigration. IF you enter this country illegaly you should be deported an once. If you are an illegal immigrant currently in America's prison system you should be deported immediately. Immigration to the united states has a legal process. If you want to live here you should follow our laws.
*Terror. We must fight this fight to the bitter end to win and anything short of complete victory is unacceptable.
*Language. The Language of the United States of America is ENglish. There should be NO tax payers dollars paid for special assistance teachers for those children whose natural language is not english(In my daughter's grade school there are two special teachers. One for spanish speaking children and one for polish speaking children. My daughter has autism and she cannot get services from her school because tax payer money is paying these special teacher's salaries and creating a budget shortfall.
*Taxes. Cut taxes for everyone and lower taxes on business to say less than 10%. WHY WHY do democrats punish the rich with high taxes? Doesn't it make sense if you cut taxes on the rich they will hire more workers and/or pay current workers more money?
*Death Tax. Eleminate it. The deceased has already paid all taxes on their income and to make inheritors to pay more taxes on that money is idiocy.
*Capital Gains Tax. Cut it. Not raise it. Raising it does not benefit the economy at all, but instead harms it.
*NO BAILOUTS! If your company cant adapt to the changing free markets then your company deserves to die.
*God. Do not give in to liberal lunacy to take God off of our monuments, historical documents and other such beliefs of men who founded this country.
*Freedom of Religion. It is in our Constution. It should be respected without question. If you wish to pray in school then the freakin atheist needs to go somewhere else so he cant hear you.
*Iran. It is unacceptable for that country to be allowed to have nuclear arms. Period.
*Offshore drilling. It leads to energy independence, which has nation security implications.
*Israel. They must have our support and always have it no matter what. If they ask us to wipe out Hezbollah or Hamas they we should be glad to help them.
*Saudi Arabia> They should be put on the list Iran, Syria, and Lebanon are on. They are NOT our friends. 12 of the 14 hijackers of 911 and BIN LADIN is Saudi Arabian by birth.

Welcome.....however, why do you think that my fully-automatic weapons pose a threat to you and society.......

The "spirit" of the Second Amendment implies that citizens should be armed with the same weaponry in general use by the military, ostensibly for the same purpose......to defend ourselves, and the nation if needed.  So long as I can afford to buy a full-auto weapon (and it is perfectly legal in my state to own one, so long as I jump through the appropriate hoops).....why should anyone care??  They are a hell of a lot of fun to shoot........

They may be fun to shoot but believe me one shot from a well placed 12 guage shotgun is more effective than an automatic weapon against a criminal. I mean with a 12 guage all you need is one shot, but with an automatic weapon it takes a few because the shells are smaller. I grew up shooting guns with my dad. I have shot UZIs, 12 guage, 20 guage, 44 magnum, .357, .22, .36, 3030, 9 millimeter, 308, m1 carbine. You name it and I have practiced shooting with it. In my experience the 12 guage obliterated the target every time while a much smaller shell just spun the target around. Your automatic may be fun to shoot but my 12 guage will take a crinimal down in one shot at close range.

Hey you disagree with me on automatic weapons and that is okay. To disagree and feel okay about it is what makes America great.

Well....my tactical defense philosophy has always been, if you allow a threat to get within effective shotgun range, you have allowed him/her/it to get too close.....

This is true. Kind of hard to deautomatic an automatic weapon eh? I wonder why the military does that. I am sure they are military studies studying which is more effective in combat- a shot gun or an automatic rifle.

The military uses a select fire rifle these days and has for decades.

Conservative Convert, why is it that you THINK that folks should not be able to own automatic weapons ?? Did you know that there are plenty of law-abiding civilians that own fully automatic rifles?? Of course, the hoops they jump through are tremendous. The criminals that own fully automatic weapons have acquired them through illegal imports and illegal modifications. As far as I know, there has only been one major crime committed with fully automatic weapons in the last two decades and that was the Hollywood Shootout, in which those machine guns, AK-47s, were illegally imported/converted. This was exactly the point that I made with him earlier in the thread, and he didn't really answer it, and attempted to divert the discussion into shotguns......

Since the 2nd Amendment is sort of a "tripwire" with me, when evaluating how a person actually thinks about constitutional issues, my suspicion is that this newbie might not have undergone the conversion that he initially stated........

My experience has been that an individual that does not feel "comfortable" with his/her fellow law-abiding citizens ownership of any type of man-portable conventional weapon is to some extent drinking the liberal kool-aid......

TV Doc, many folks haven't bothered to fully research the 2nd Amendment, therefore, they tend to believe what the media and the Brady Bunch says (or maybe even the ACLU!!)  :o
What folks NEED to do is research the Framer's intent. When that is done, their intent becomes quite clear. I firmly believe that the Framers intended on the civilian population owning the SAME weapons as any military would own. There WAS a time when folks in this country owned cannons and other destructive devices, just the same as the military, without special permission from the Government.

I also believe that the movies are much to blame in the automatic weapons fear mongering.

It used to be taught in secondary school....at least it did when I went in the '50's.........

Things have changed more than I suspected.......it is a shame.

BTW....you can still buy a cannon (in many states), if you jump through the "hoops"    A friend of mine owns an old WW II bazooka, however, he has to do the paperwork, and pay the tax on every rocket that he buys for it.....hell of a lot of fun to watch him use it though......
