Has anyone been to Australia?
« on: February 14, 2009, 01:20:20 PM »
I want to go there in March -- I have enough miles to go 1st class and enough points to pay for the Marriott Sydney Harbor.

Anyone been there?  Is March a good time to go?  What should I be expecting when we get there?  After sightseeing Sydney what should we do?

Thanks in advance for any assistance...

Does Alice Springs count?

I don't know -- who is she and where does she live?

I haven't been, but LCEFA is from Australia so I'm sure he'll be able to give you the low down.

Not necessarily true.  I lived less than an hour from the Grand Canyon for 3 years, and I would be the WORST possible source for points of interest there.

Ain't it funny how that works? But I'll take any advice, really.

Ok, the beer is strong and the women are friendly.

That is as good a reason to visit somewhere as any.

Yes, I've been there, but it was a while back (1992 and 1995).

I did Sydney and Brisbane the first time, Freemantle/Perth the second.

As far as Sydney goes, I recommend:

--The Rocks.  Don't know where your hotel is located, but that's a nice area.
--Opera House.
--Harbor Tour.
--Sydney Zoo.  As good as any you'll find.
--BEACHES.  Yes, they're everything they're advertised.

You won't have any trouble finding things to do, trust me.  Eat steaks.  Aussie beef is excellent.  I wish I knew where it was or if it's still open, but I remember a place where you picked out your own steaks and grilled them yourself.  Nice way to do a casual dinner.

The people there are VERY friendly and love to engage Americans.

Bottom line, you won't have any problem finding stuff to do.

You've been outed by the Google Ad banner: Advertisement for a Gay and Lesbian Mardis Gras tour in Sydney.

In this case it is true.

I've been to Sydney once, when I was less than 5.  I don't like cities and Sydney was/is no exception.

Heck even Brisbane, the "capital city" of this state I havn't been to in years and wouldn't know the first thing about entertainments there.

If you come right up to the north east parts of the land, sure I can help.

Does Alice Springs count?

:naughty:  Work trip to the gap eh?

:rotf: I noticed that too. The ad is for Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Sydney and he's talking about how he can't wait to get there. I hate to say it, but it's rather AdBot-ish. :-)
