House Approves Final $787B Stimulus Bill
« on: February 13, 2009, 01:38:52 PM »

Quote
WASHINGTON - The House on Friday passed the final version of a $787 billion economic stimulus plan aimed at jolting the slumping U.S. economy, setting up a vote in the Senate expected later in the day.

The measure was passed 246-183, with no Republican "yes" votes and one member voting present.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid predicted that Congress will finish its work possibly by day's end, giving President Obama a big victory.

According to HotAir all Republicans and 7 Democrats voted No.

Looks like they picked up 6 more democrat votes against that this time  It was 177 voting no last time wasn't it?

You know what would be hilarious?  If the 3 who voted yes in the Senate voted no this time.

Hey, a man can dream can't he?

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

You know what would be hilarious?  If the 3 who voted yes in the Senate voted no this time.

They just might.  With Judd Gregg coming back to the Senate, and Teddy Kennedy being in south Florida, the Dems can only muster 58 votes without the three defectors.  One of the big reasons that the three traitors went for the stimulus was that none of them could be labelled as casting the deciding vote.  Now, with Gregg coming back and Kennedy out, the three traitors would make 61 votes--the number needed for passage.  None of them want that distinction (being the one that pushed this over the hump).

Thanks for screwing over the next generation assholes!

Don't bother trying to fix what's wrong (government overspending)...  Just kick the can down the road with a higher price tag for my grandkids to pay.

I swear we need another revolution and fast.

Final stimulus vote in Senate imminent; Update: 57 yeses, three Dems still to vote

Quote
Update: Because the vote’s being held open for Brown, we’re not going to get a final tally for hours yet. But Collins, Specter, and Snowe have all voted yes, and needless to say, no Democrat’s going to torpedo The One’s moment by switching. The deed is done.

Update: As of 6:20 p.m., there are 57 yes votes in the books with Bayh, Gillibrand, and of course Brown yet to show and add theirs. Done deal.

Hope it's not the beginning of the end for economic freedom in America.  :banghead:

Best spin I can figure is let this day be, at the very least, the beginning of the beginning of the conservative comeback.

Spectre, Snowe, and Collins need to be fired by their constituents or at the least change to Dem.  This is nothing but a spending spree for every Dem pet project for 40 years.  This is not going to be good for any American except for those who want handouts.

The silver lining maybe a politically crippled dem party once this monstrosity becomes known. They had to ramrod this through BEFORE the public got hold of it and that speaks volumes. This may also be the key to a GOP comeback in 2010.

Breaking talking points!

And to that point sir, here come the Orwellian talking points.

Quote
On Chris Matthews’ MSNBC show Hardball, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) just called the stimulus bill “the most transparent piece of legislation in American history.”

Quote
With David Schuster on MSNBC, Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) called the stimulus bill "the most vetted bill in history," and 'the most transparent piece of legislation in history.'

most transparent?  most vetted?  how?  it's over a thousand pages!! They read it in under 2 days?

they are violating the provisions of the bill by voting on it so damn fast.  It has written into it that it must be available to the public for 48 hours before any vote... anyone read it?  seen it anywhere?

How bout they read it in less than 12 hours

Glenn Beck and his staff did a calculation on his radio show this morning.  In order to read that document between the time it was posted (23:00 last night) and the time voting opened for it in the house, the person in question would have to be capable of reading at 637 words per minute.  Non-stop.  Not counting all of the cross referencing to other sections of the bill and existing US code.

637 words per minute.  Not one of those Armani-clad shitbirds read a friggin' word of that bill.

Hmmm, that is very interesting.

he had no choice... as soon as he uttered the phrase "I won", he committed to playing chicken with economic reality after throwing out his steering wheel and brake pedal.  His only hope was either making it bipartisan so he wouldn't take all the blame, or having it fail in the Senate... now when it fails to create or save any public sector jobs, and long-term it will fail, or the money trickles out, as it will, or inflation skyrockets; it's all his.  He owns it, he bought it, he will wear that millstone and drag his whole party down...

on the good side, when the Congress changes hands next go-round, they can vote to repeal the remainder of this 0bomination.
