FRANKFORT, Ky. —  President Barack Obama on Thursday issued a major disaster declaration for Kentucky in the wake of a deadly ice storm, ordering federal aid to supplement local recovery efforts.

Gov. Steve Beshear sought the major disaster status earlier this week. The storm has been blamed for 27 Kentucky deaths.

Beshear said such a declaration would open the state to immediate federal financial assistance in the wake of the devastating ice storm, which cut power to more than three-fourths of a million homes and businesses, a state record.

...and it only took him a week.  Somebody on his staff probably told him there really are black people in Kentucky.   :whatever:

I recognize that the Gov has to ask for help...but the article says, the KY governor requested earlier in the week....bet it was Monday.  :bird:

Most of Kentucky was already a federal disaster area since January 28, but this covered the rest of the state I believe.

It's the same as Katrina, there isn't any way the Feds are responsible for local relief. It's up to local Govs and their neighbors to administer immediate relief in these situations.

Somehow I'll bet they'll blame Bush! No way can it be the Big Zero's fault!

Amazing thing is you didn't see Kentuckians standing out demanding to know where the Government was. Wasn't anyone demanding beer from FEMA. Don't recall any mass looting.
The Governor put the National Guard out going door to door checking on people. West Virgina activated some National Guard troops and sent them over to help out. Most people just helped each other out.
