BACK!!!
« on: February 04, 2009, 04:18:59 PM »
It is good to be home.  We enjoyed our trip but I am glad we are back.  The flight home sucked though and if we can't get some sort of major tranquilizer for the oldest I don't know if he will ever be able to handle a flight longer than 2 hours.  That was really hard to handle.  I felt so bad for the poor kid and even worse for the people around us.  Although I have to say they were pretty understanding of the situation. We enjoyed Disney even though it was cooler than normal and it rained 1 1/2 days.

I missed my home though.

Hope you had a good time.  Since I am visiting my wife's family in Mexico this weekend I will have been away from home for 3 straight weeks as of the 13th.

As far as flights go, the human being can get used to anything.  I had 259,000 miles last year and already have 16,700 miles this year.

You get used to it...

ps: what was the problem with the flight?  Bumpy?

You clearly haven't been through MIA or ORD -- hellholes, both.

Orlando is pretty decent -- the spoke and hub train thing is not dissimilar to PIT or DEN.

I haven't been to MCO since 1995. Then, it was fairly small, but  nice airport, especially when compared to ORD, DFW, and LAX.

Ohare has to be the bane of my existence.  I have never flown in or out of that damned airport without issues. And every flight that comes from there to MCI is always late.

MCO isn't too bad.  Now that we have flown in and out of it a few times we got the hang of it.

It wasn't the flight as much as my oldest has severe autism.  He has behavior issues which really impede his developmental progress.  Part of why we go to Disney is because it is the only place that we can really get good interaction from him and he rally comes out of "his world" to be with us.

Anyway, about 45 minutes before we started to descend he started freaking out and saying "GO DOWN!" really loud and crying.  That may sound rather annoying when you are thinking about a child under the age of 7.  But when they are about to turn 17 it is just disruptive.  I HATE people judging or assuming things about him or his development based on his behaviors so it was a little rough.  I already hate it when people stare so for him to draw attention to himself is just a little more than what I like to handle.  You'd think after 14 years I'd be used to it, or wouldn't care.  oh well.  Otherwise it was a great trip!  And the flight attendants were REALLY cool and helpful which almost never happens when we fly any other airline.  I gotta hand it to Southwest, they are good with people who have disabilities.
