Teen charged in attempted carjacking of Dallas officer
« on: February 03, 2009, 02:31:21 PM »

Quote
DALLAS – Even the most veteran Dallas police officers have never heard of a crime like the one a fellow officer encountered over the weekend.

John Lewis Johnson, 18, tried to carjack a Dallas police sergeant who was driving a marked patrol car with its emergency lights on, said Dep. Chief Rick Watson.

Investigators told News 8 that Johnson first tried to carjack three other drivers in southwest Dallas Saturday afternoon.

When DPD responded to calls for help, Johnson reappeared unarmed and dressed in different clothing from what witnesses described. He opened the patrol car’s passenger door and demanded the officer’s weapon and police car, Watson said.

“Well it was at that time that Sgt. Charles Young grabbed the suspect’s arm,” Watson said. “The suspect yanked away from him and proceeded to run. Sgt. Young gave chase, and a short distance later apprehended the suspect without incident.”
Texas, really?

These kids today, I'll tell you what.  They play too many video games that make car-jacking easier than it really is.

WHY ?!?!?!? The perp didn't pose a risk of great bodily harm or imminent danger to the officer. I'm glad that a Dallas Police Officer showed some integrity, as the department has been lacking that as of late.

I hope that you don't carry a gun.  :censored:

That kid is an idiot - doesn't he know that that trick would only work in San Francisco?
nine eleven is a car
nine one one is an emergency service
September 11, 2001 was an attack
Never Forget, or Minimize.

When we lived in Vegas every now and then you would see a story in the metro section that was kind of a semi humorous anecdote about someone from LA or someplace who lost everything in Vegas and tried to carjack a local to get a ride home.  It would frequently end with a note about the LVMPD congratulating somebody for holding the person at gunpoint till the cops could show up. Or about how the DA's office wasn't going to press charges on the person who successfully defended their life with their legally carried vehicular firearm. :-)
