WASHINGTON (AP) - Nancy Killefer, who failed for a year and a half to pay employment taxes on household help, has withdrawn her candidacy to be the first chief performance officer for the federal government, the White House said Tuesday.

Killefer was the second major Obama administration nominee to withdraw and the third to have tax problems complicate their nomination after President Barack Obama announced their selection.

"Nancy Killefer has decided to withdraw her nomination, and we accepted her withdrawal," Tommy Vietor, a White House spokesman, said Tuesday. The 55-year-old executive with consulting giant McKinsey & Co., was expected to explain her reasons for pulling out later in the day.

When her selection was announced by Obama on Jan. 7, The Associated Press disclosed that in 2005 the District of Columbia government had filed a $946.69 tax lien on her home for failure to pay unemployment compensation tax on household help.

Since then, administration officials refused to answer questions about the tax error, which she resolved five months after the lien was filed. Obama's first choice for commerce secretary, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, took his name out of consideration when his confirmation appeared headed toward complications because of a grand jury investigation over how state contracts were issued to political donors.

Of course not WE.  Thats our job.

well, this is presumably the best that the democrat party has to offer;  they are the best, the brightest, and they are financially well off.  and most of them are tax cheats.

they are just handing us a lethal freaking argument if they so much as mention increasing taxes.  it remains to be seen if The Audacity of Dope is audacious enough to go there.

It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

Geithner, Daschle, and Killefer are tax cheats.  richardson is about to be indicted by a federal grand jury.  the sec'y of state's husband is being paid off by every hostile foreign government on the planet.  the atty gen was point man in pardoning terrorists for free, and tax cheats for money.

it's notworthy that the republicans that he has either nominated or retained from the bush administration are, as a group, the least controversial of his cabinet members.

this is definitely "change we are deceived in".

This has classic makings for a PR nightmare for the entire party, especially the tax part.  I think the Dems are banking on the Obamamania to pull them through this.  That's relying on a lot of hooey, it's unsustainable.

What's a chief performance officer?  Sounds vaguely sexual.

their mistakes are "innocent oversights".  our mistakes are the reason that children are homeless, old people are starving, and no one has even seen a doctor as long as they have been alive.

it's another one of those odd "czar" posts that The BarackStar! is creating by the dozen.  they seems as though they are his spies within the various federal bureaucracies that are there to keep an eye on his cabinet secretaries.

Another Hitler trick, drawing off the energies of possible future rivals with appointments that overlap another potential future rival's domain so that their energies are absorbed with internecine strife and the Boss does not become dependent on the actions or responsibilities of any one single subordinate.  So far it's looking a lot more like the Reichsministerium than "Team of Rivals."

As far as being performance czar goes, I guess it is easier to perform better financially if you don't actually pay taxes.

okay, I have changed my mind.  it's OK with me if obama/reid/pelosi raise my taxes as long as there is there is a mandatory prison sentence for tax cheats.  hell, they will all be in jail the time that the next election rolls around, and republicans will win the white house and congress by default. :-)  we can fix the tax code after that. :uhsure:

Taxes are for the "little people" and the IRS is nothing but a enforcers for the thugeaucracy.

Still I have asked my Rep for the same deal as Gietner.  No paying of taxes until the Big L'oef appoints me to high office.  I haven't heard back yet.

Has anyone heard any of the late night talk shows mention any of this?

I haven't, but really haven't heard any mention of it either.....

if it had been a Republican ....the jokes, etc...would go on for months if not years....
