On the Road Again, Super Bowl Sunday
« on: February 01, 2009, 06:02:15 AM »
Sitting on the bus for the last hour and a half on the way to Logan Airport.  Plane leaves at 8:30 for Chicago with a connection from there to Cedar Rapids.  Whee.

While I had to work yesterday--apparently I was the only guy going to Iowa who did have to work yesterday--I still managed to get the house in order, pets to the kennel, and all the other little odds and ends done in relative ease, except for raking the roof, which always sucks.

9 degrees when I left the house.  It's supposed to be right at freezing in Cedar Rapids today, but I'm no fool--it's colder there in February than it is at home.  Priorities when I get checked in:

--Unpack
--Find a grocery store for a few basic items
--Find a bar where I can watch the game and consume large quantities of beer and wings.

Anyone else?

Gotta a paper for school I'm writing now and then working out for a bit and then home to cook the naughty foods one only sees during sporting events: wings and such. I may have to get more pop since the family has been workign on it already :whatever:

Just fished making some blueberry muffins, and we are in the process of smoking a turkey breast.  later we will have munchies while we watch the SB.

Need to tackle my room at some point today...it is the receptacle for "all the things that don't belong in the fill in the blank room, and it is totally cluttered.  Very non-restful atmosphere.

Stuck in Richmond but at least I didn't have to travel today.

Mrs. FD is in Los Angeles -- this won't be a fun SB.  And this was what happened last year as well :(

Hope you don't have any travel troubles and can enjoy the game, Sparks!

Ouch.   Just spent $219 on baseball gloves.  Both boys needed new fielding gloves, and we goy my younger son a catcher's mitt, too.

But  I guess at least they last a couple years.  When I spen $80 on pointe shoes for my daughter I'm lucky if they last 3 months.

Ahh, I slept in today.  The lazy-ass cats are actually still in my bed!  Monty did manage to move to another spot on the bed.  LOL

I ran to the grocery store for the ingredients I needed for my dip I'm making.  It's been made (except the queso, I'll put that on about 20 minutes before I need to leave the house, just enough time to get the cheese all melty) and is in the fridge.

Other people are bringing wings, shrimp & cocktail sauce, cheesecake bars and fried pickles....along with beverages.   :evillaugh:

Spent the day in Milwaukee.  Stooged around at the comic show with my brothers and then our sister met us for lunch in Brookfield. Ate big Italian food.  it was SO nice having everybody there together for a bit. :)

Mine wife is out getting stuff to make cheese fondue later.

Picked up a sack of books at Barnes and Noble today and came home with some GREAT movies from the show.

It's been a really nice day and it was above freezing for all of it.  It's major suckage when 37 degrees feels like spring. :-)

Home from work finally. Way to GO, Steelers!  :cheersmate:

My boss is happy, despite his rooting for the Cardinals.  He was in a betting pool, and he bet AGAINST his own team for some reason, which actually paid off.  He is $100 richer.

Oh, I should add that my boss brought a small tv to work, and we watched the game there.   :lmao:

Animal Planet had this "Puppy Bowl" thing.  It was cute as hell.

I didn't watch the game.

My mom sent me a text-message about that not long after I got home.  I love the Puppy Bowl... I want to steal the aussie shepherd mix puppy, Eli.  *squeals*

Be warned: Puppy cuteness OVERLOAD!

I have no problem with that.  LOL

My mom is really itching for a large dog these days, but given her recent bad experience with the neighbor's chocolate lab, labs are no longer in consideration.   (we're still laughing at the Puppy Bowl lab mix puppy removed from the field for humping the other puppies... "unnecessary roughness." :rotf: ).

She'll probably just get another Keeshond...that breed has always been her favorite.

The laundromat down the street from work has an old-fashioned video arcade in part of the building.  I'm going to have to check it out tomorrow if I have some free time. :)

Sounds like fun.  Funny how at places like Jillians or David and Buster's, the only games that really attract me are the older ones and none of the virtual reality crap or the ones you ride on.  Ski ball and pin ball machines are good enough for me.  Only video game machine I'll play better say "Pac-Man" or "Ms. Pac-Man" on it.  :p

I used to go to Opryland and after riding all the rides, $5 in quarters would last for the rest of the day in one of the arcades.  It was fun.

I like Pinball but have not seen one since I moved from Illinois. Used to have a couple older machines in my basement when growing up....but here in the southwest, there are no basements. (or pinball)
