Many times our jobs are in multiple stages. We pump gelled water sand and sometimes acid down hole with an admixture of chemicals. When we're done we turn the well over to wire line; people who can lower sensors and/or shaped charges to breach the well casing at pre-determined depths. During wireline we can sleep if we don't have anything to maintain equipment-wise.

Tuesday I woke-up from my nap and looked over at our hydro--a large tractor trailer designed to hold water--that's all just water (sometimes gelled water).

ME (on radio): What's in the hydro?

RADIO: Water

ME: Just water?

RADIO: Just water.

ME: So why is the hydro on fire?


Huge rolling sheets of orange flame no less. We went through 2 fire extinguishers fighting the flames.

Turns out: It was -10 that day and some hands had sprayed some diesel into the hydro and set it on fire hoping to de-ice the valves.

well, everyone knows that  :mental:

anyway at least they connected it to fire and fire to heat and heat to unfreezing something.

Its a terribly bad idea but at least there was a shadow of logic there... so probably not a DU member

A few times in the past I've had to set bulldozer tracks on fire to thaw them out for work. Pour gallons of diesel fuel on them, splash a little gas in the mix to get it going, thump in a lite match. For some reason I don't think the EPA would look to kindly on doing that these days........ :uhsure:
