President Obama, Don't Become Complicit in Their Crimes! Letter From: Cynthia McKinney

President Obama, Don't Become Complicit in Their Crimes!

by Cynthia McKinney Page 1 of 2 page(s)

On Thursday, January 29th, I sent President Obama this message:

"Mr. President: The Bush Administration lied to the people in pursuit of war. As a result, at least one million Iraqis and thousands of U.S. soldiers are dead. Thousands more are maimed. The stature of the U.S. is severely damaged. The U.S. Constitution is in shreds after signing statements, wiretaps, and torture. Your obligation is to investigate and bring to justice those who violated U.S. and international law, such as the torture treaty. Failure to do so makes you complicit in their crimes."

On Wednesday, January 28th, I sat in front of the television and I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Exactly what I've been saying, myself. But it was coming from an unexpected source: the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, Manfred Nowak. I wrote down every word. He said that the United Nations has proof that former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld knowingly approved of torture as a policy for the United States. He said that President Barack Obama has a responsibility to investigate and prosecute those who condoned, conducted, or approved of torture.

Further, Jonathan Turley, in an MSNBC interview stated that if Obama fails to investigate or prosecute that he would be an "accessory."

This is significant. It means that all of us, sadly, were right to pursue impeachment of the key figures in the Bush Administration. Impeachment was the Constitutional imperative; but the Constitution didn't mean anything to either the Republican or Democratic national leadership.

1. For Sure
Any and all of our so called leaders who refuse to prosecute those who broke the laws of our nation or trashed our treaties are guilty of aiding and abetting and put themselves in a position to be prosecuted in turn. I personally will not vote for anyone I believe passes on their duty to enforce our laws regardless of who broke them. If Obama fails to go forward with all means of enforcement and prosecution he loses my vote. He and the rest of our leaders owe the citizens of this country and the rest of the world proper closure on this sad and regretful period in our history by proving that we are indeed a nation based on the rule of law.

2010 and 2012 are lookin' SCHWEET!

2. Cynthia, would that be the crime where Katrina was actually a huge cover-up for
Edited on Fri Jan-30-09 10:52 AM by Occam Bandage
the gangland-style execution of 5,000 people, or the crime where the Bush administration ordered 9/11?

The message is one thing, but she's like the least credible messenger on Earth. Hitching your argument to her is like saying, "I'm a batshit conspiracy theorist, please disregard any point I may have."

OB, along with OMC, seems to be trying as desperately as futilely to impose a modicum of sanity and civility on DU.

We wish him luck...but hope he doesn't ruin our entertainment.

8. So the apologists for the Bush/Rumsfeld pardons come out.
If President Obama and his Democratic majorities in congress allow the criminals of the Bush administration to go free without investigation or trial, then President Obama may turn out to be more competent than Bush, but otherwise no better. If President Obama covers for the criminals of the Bush administration I am sure you will find a way to applaud him, but does it have to be by smearing someone else?

Excuse me, but you have made me  :puke:

Ah... anti-Nut = pro-Bush

is praise, indeed. You attack dogs can get as petty and nasty as you like, but anyone who comes back at you with the same is "lame" and "pathetic". What is lame and pathetic is your little DLC tribe and the attack method you use. It is really quite funny watch the mouth-frothing. Better grab a napkin, babe...

47. Explain why you think McKinney is nuts.
It's easy to call someone crazy if they say something you don't want to imagine to be true.

Somebody convinced McKinney that it happened, and you haven't seen the evidence she was looking at.

You don't explain why she's nuts, but you must have a reason, especially since you're so quick to pounce on this.

Please explain! I'm all ears. However, telling this outrageous story isn't enough in my book. Plenty of people have told truthful but outrageous stories that nobody's believed until too late.
As long as the nutcase believes it, it must be true.

49. Yes. I believe someone who does not believe every conspiracy theory presented to her
would be a better spokesperson, yes.

What are the "bigotry" and "bias" you refer to? Surely you are not attempting to play the race card, because that would be hilarious. Nah, you're probably just claiming it's "bigoted" to suggest that facts are more trustworthy than conspiracy theories. After all, everyone's opinion is equal!

6. Cynthia McKinney reminds me of liberals in general: we've always been right, from the start
about what a phucking mess this country was in. And just like the rest of us liberals, she was called a "nut", a "conspiracy theorist" and a trouble-maker. She's been right about everything, and someday it will all be proven.
I agree with the title of the post but the body of the text ruined it.

9. More Accurately, Don't REMAIN Complicit
Yes, I know that most people preferred to ladle around the turd in the inaugural punch bowl. But that doesn't mean it wasn't floating and bobbing around there the whole time.

Obama's years-long, impeachophobic, tacit approval of torture was and remains a war crime in itself.

All this talk of "responsibility" rings pretty hollow to those unable to ignore the reality of this.

45. Remember Pat Tillman? The star athlete turned soldier that got whacked
in Iraq by ahem, "friendly fire"? If Bushler was crazy enough to take out a freaking football hero just for badmouthing his trumped-up war on terra -- no doubt Tillman's calls home had been "intercepted" -- why would anybody think he wouldn't approve the mass killing of Louisiana prisoners, or any of the other atrocities we know he's guilty of?

50. Disregarding your entirely baseless claim that Bush ordered the death of Tillman,
are you actually suggesting that we "know" Bush is guilty of ordering the execution and cover-up of 5,000 prisoners?

Who, may I ask, are the prisoners who were executed? Wouldn't that mean that 5,000 prisoners were lost to the system? Or, if they were "erased" from the registries, wouldn't that mean there were 5,000 families wondering where their brothers, fathers, and sons went?

51. I'm suggesting that the claims should be investigated, not dismissed.
And that's what McKinney was suggesting. As for any executed prisoners, as I mentioned above, many Louisiana law enforcement records were "lost" or disrupted by the hurricane and have yet to be restored, in classic Bushler convenient incompetence fashion. As for the families, many former New Orleans residents are still searching for missing relatives. Who are they going to ask, anyway? Blackwater?
Would that the dems actually embarrassed themselves with an investigation of every nutty claim their constituents believe in.

52. No, she was not suggesting that maybe we should investigate prisoner records.
She claimed directly that the National Guard executed 5,000 people and covered it up. Without any evidence whatsoever, nor with anyone to back up her claim. That claim needs not be "investigated" any more than that primary-season claim that Obama had a gay cocaine orgy with some toothless hick in a limo.

"Some people are searching for missing relatives" is not adequate evidence for the claim, as it says nothing about five thousand missing prisoners. Five thousand is a lot of people. That's more people than died in 9/11. Really, do you think it's reasonable that not one person but Cynthia has any evidence of such an enormous operation?
It's amazing he's survived this long.

Well, silly me, I thought Pat Tillman was in Afghanistan. And can anyone show me where the "no signing statement" clause is in the Constitution. I've looked, I can't find it but I'm sure it's there because they do go on and on and on about it.

You know what's really screwed up is that we are subsidizing these DUmbasses to sit around and come up with this crazy shit.

If they were working there idled/addled minds could be put to some use.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Well, what's that math where two rights make a wrong? :-)

Seriously, though, I guess these DUers and, generally, Democrats, liberals and leftists live and breathe in pretty rarefied atmospheres.

Me, I know people, self included, who've been wrong about a lot of things, even political ones. And I don't believe most of us have entered the realm of the know-it-alls.

But, as Harry Truman is purported to have said, "The only things worth learning are those after you know it all."

McKinney and her supporters mus be, therefore, brilliant people, right? Kidding.

You know, this was not one of the primitives' finest hours.

They had a chance, a great opportunity, to demonstrate both their non-racism and their non-sexism, by voting for a black woman for president.

The primitives could've killed two birds with one stone there.

But no, the primitives fell for a half-white snake-oil salesman.

OK. But it's a lot different being a repository - fancy word for a silo -- than it is actually being someone of action who has a clue about what to do, ain't it, Barry?
