My beautiful, wonderful 14 yo son came into my office today and said "hey mom, can you drop me off at the movie theater on Saturday after my game".  I say "sure, what's up".  He says "a girl in my class wants to meet me there".

He is so cute and yet he's growing up.   :bawl:

I was so cool.  I didn't ask any more questions.  I didn't grin.  I just said ok. 

Later I asked who, he told me her name but added "I don't think you know her".  I asked what movie are you going to see.   He said "well, I don't know but she likes horror movies".

Wow...and the girls parents are OK with that?  Of course, my daughter has only been out with 2 different boys, but my steadfast rule is she doesn't go out with anyone until I meet the boy (and preferably his parents) first!

They know us, the kids have been in school together since kindergarten.   He didn't think I knew her but there are only 20 kids in the class, we all know each other.  They are meeting at the theater for an afternoon movie.  I'll bet there are other kids going to be there as well.   I'm just asking questions a little at a time. :-)

Ah, that's different...around here we didn't know anyone to just allow her to head off!

That balancing line between getting information and giving them their space is a tough one!

I'd say that's a pretty good bet.  Around here, even if they're meeting someone in particular, they still meet up and hang out in packs.
