Obama: My kids can handle winter weather, why can’t DC?
« on: January 28, 2009, 11:41:16 AM »

translation:

Dear Washington, D.C.,

You are all a bunch of (word that means "cat" and rhymes with "wussies"), and my 7
year old daughter is tougher than you are.

Your Ruler,
President Barry O'Bama

that oughta make him some friends. :-)

Quote
Obama: Snowy Washington Needs 'Chicago Toughness'

President Obama, you're not in Chicago anymore.

Shortly before a meeting with business leaders on the economy at the White House, Obama said he wanted to make an unrelated comment to the press. In a slightly amused tone, he noted this his daughters' school, Sidwell Friends, was canceled today because of a snow and ice storm that hit Washington.

The suburban schools systems and many private schools in the region were closed today and the District public schools opted for a delayed opening because of the sleet and freezing rain that made some roads and many sidewalks treacherous.

"Because of what? Because of some ice?" Obama said to laughter around the table. He said Sasha, his 7-year-old, pointed out that in Chicago, not only is school never canceled for snow, "you'd go outside for recess. You wouldn't even stay indoors."

He concluded by saying: "We're going to have to apply some flinty Chicago toughness to this town. I'm saying that when it comes to the weather, folks in Washington don't seem to be able to handle things."

Especially in these days of global warming when snow seems to fall more and more often and is deeper all the time.

Wasn't that racist of 0bama to say that, picking on a black person like that?

Isn't the mayor of Washington, D.C., black?

When's the last time Barry had to drive himself in this stuff?  Whe's the last time he had to worry about some uninsured, illegal alien running into him...and not having the money to pay the repair bills?

Idiot.

Only the super-rich/super-powerful or super-poor crackhead welfare cases live within an easy commute to work in Washington, and the latter mostly don't exactly clock in anywhere.  Everyone else has to drive the living Hell of high-speed traffic that is the DC commute, even if it's just to get to and from a Metro station (Most of which is surface trackage, out where it collects the bulk of the commuters).

I am sure glad I don't have to live out this mistake in the first person.

So if Barruh want some "Chicago Toughness", how long is it gonna be until he has Cabinet meetings where he paces up and down behind everyone with a baseball bat in his hand ala "The Untouchables?"

At least with Capone, you knew where you stood, and thuggery is still thuggery by any measure.

Obama: My kids can handle winter weather, why can’t DC?

So, President Obama, you think DC schools can’t handle ice?

At a photo op before his meeting Wednesday morning with business leaders, he joked about how DC schools can’t handle wintry weather, according to a press pool report. Think again, Mr. President. Unlike the surrounding jurisdictions, which closed schools because of icy conditions, DC public schools were open for business, after a two-hour delay.

But Obama’s children, who attend the private Sidwell Friends, didn’t have school.

“My children’s school was canceled today, because of what? Some ice?” he said to laughter, according to an unofficial transcript of his remarks provided by Jon Ward of the Washington Times. “As my children pointed out, in Chicago, school is never canceled,” and kids even go out for recess on snow days, he added, to more laughter.

Well, needless to say, if he and his wife had chosen to send their children to a public DC elementary school (of which there are several fine choices, despite the overall system’s terrible reputation), Malia and Sasha would have gone to school today. And maybe they would have even had outdoor recess.

To be fair to Sidwell, we should note that its lower school (where Sasha goes) is located in Bethesda, Maryland, where the driving conditions were worse than in the District of Columbia Wednesday morning. The middle school (where Malia goes) and upper school are in DC. Sidwell, presumably, makes one blanket decision on closings for both campuses. The school could not be reached for comment.

another report ...
Quote
...“In Chicago, school is never canceled,” the president said. “In fact, my seven-year-old pointed out that you’d go outside for recess in weather like this. You wouldn’t even stay indoors.”

“We’re going to have to try to apply some flinty Chicago toughness to this town,” he continued. “When it comes to the weather, folks in Washington don’t seem to be able to handle things.”

Obama’s poke at the Washington area’s notorious inability to cope with even a dusting of snow came at the beginning of a meeting with corporate executives devoted to the $825 billion stimulus package the administration is trying to sell to Republicans and the public.

While reporters were in the room, the president didn’t appear to want to discuss anything beyond Sasha and Malia’s snow day–the second in a row. He only addressed the economy - albeit briefly - after a reporter shouted a question on the way out of the meeting.

Obama crossed the line into areas that seasoned politicians never go, the politics of snow.

The differences between Chicago and D.C. are numerous, but those that would affect school delays and cancellations the most are the ability to remove snow from the roads and keep them properly sanded.  North of NYC and you are golden.   The snow plows and sanders are legions and the roads are usually plowed to pavement with adequate sanding in time for morning/evening commutes.     D.C. does not have the heavy equipment or staffing that Chicago has.     The vehicles in DC also do not have the standard all weather tires that the vehicles in Chicago are equipped with.   The list could really go on, but he is a true jackass for even joking about the weather in this way.

Folks may not remember that you kept only a few of your promises, but they have memories like elephants when it comes to their street getting properly plowed, and whether school was called or not when it was treacherous to walk the length of your street to the bus stop.    Any local politician will tell you --  play snow wrong and you can kiss your seat goodbye.

Silly rookie move Mr.  President.

Someone should send this over to UP's thread about having to endure two nights in the frigid cold of her Maryland home.  :lmao: Apparently, her master thinks she should pull up her bootstraps too. The thing is those dolts over there don't see how perfectly communistic this guy is...I'm sure Marxist's would tell the masses to suck it up and deal when there was no bread on the shelves too.  :lmao:

So this is the first time since he's been in D.C. he's seen how quickly they fold due to snow and ice?

Whatever, he seems to have picked up the foot-in-mouth virus from Biden.

But, then without teleprompter, his heart-mind axis is and has always been free to spew that megalomaniacal, I'm-superior-to-all-of-you arrogance.

that's a good point (his experience with DC), especially considering this has to be one of the uglier winters on record that I recall. I've lived in the OH for 7 years and this has been a really snowy, cold winter compared to others. It is getting to the point where our cities are adjusting as it carries on and less and less school gets called, but it does take some adjusting. Barry has to understand too that drivers(bus drivers and such) don't have the same experience as Chicagoans with driving in these kinds of conditions, nor are the children living in that area used to 'playing outside at recess' during single digit temps. Part of the reason you might not see that in DC is his beloved masses of lower income folks may skimp on buying certain things for the kids like thick gloves or boots because they are usually used so infrequently. He's asking people tight on money to prepare for something that doesn't happen to this extent every year and when they don't then they just aren't tough--what a butthole! I rarely had a jacket in Florida when I lived there, but we did have a week here or there in the time I lived there that I could have used one...just wasn't worth the expense for 2 weeks out of 12 years.  :p

The reason most school close when it ices, etc, is to avoid lawsuits if an accident should happen.   Places that only see one or two bad stroms a years typically don't have the equipment to clear all the roads they way places that see lots of snowfall do.

that comment just smacks of irony in a lot of ways.

He's been out on the campaign trail for the last two years.....you can't expect him to know what the weather was like while the rest of Congress was in session....he was somewhere else tellin' people how great he was.

Let's see, I live about 20 minutes from downtown D.C. and I had to dig my car out of the ice this morning. It took me over 30 minutes to chip away at the popsicle-like encasing. The ice was a thick as coke bottle and I nearly gave myself a stroke. Not to mention how incredibly slippery the pavement was.

You see, Barackstar!, most of the people that live in the D.C. area don't have garages. Space is at a premium here and even the most expensive condos and townhomes may not have covered parking.

And let's not even talk about the black ice and virtual skating rink that I drove on the entire way to work this morning. Lots of people fell and got hurt today or had car accidents. Three people I work with are walking around bruised and regretting even trying to come in today.
