Seperate yourself from your inside conservative mindset for a moment.

Obama and the libs are pushing very hard and very fast to enact laws that will nationalize the economy, take away guns, end free media, make global warming hysteria official policy and coddle the worst human vermin this planet has to offer. All before their first month is half over. If they were certain of their plans they wouldn't need GOP "bipartisan" support, they have the votes to do as they wish. It's what they wanted: enough votes to disregard the GOP entirely, even filibuster proof if need be.

They seem hesitant as if they know things could/would/should go awry but the need to nationalize everything in the US is more important than any real ability to make the US a better place.

How does this look to the average citizen?

They push WAY too fast.

To me, truly an average citizen, and, yes, whatever a conservative passes for these days, it appears they know that something is very rotten in their woodpile. So they move as quickly as possible, trying to overwhelm the public and, especially, the Republicans and conservatives.

The latter two groups are beaten up, confused, leaderless, etc.

Good targets.

The public is still in awe, one way or the other, by His Obamaness' ascenscion and the advocacy/adversary media is doing its part in adulating the empty suit from Chicago.

So, get the liberal/leftist campaign promises done early so that when things to go to hell in a handbasket, which seems unfortunately inevitable, they'll have those things in place or at least the seeds well planted.

And, you bet, they don't really need Republican support. They seek it only as CYA lotion and armor. They'll point to the Republicans anyhow and blame them for someting, everything. Here, they need the Republicans as scapegoats, as much as they continue to need President George W. Bush.

Maybe it's right now, with the stimulus package and the other things on the Obama/Democrat/Liberal/Leftist Express, that the Republican Party will either stand and find itself again--or will capitulate to the Obama and his fellow fascists and disappear.

The Rerpublicans must stand now, IMO, if America is to survive.

And that fascist express train must be stopped. While we still have a sovereign country that is not bankrupt or completely knocked down by the economic depression they, Obama and the gaggle of Democrats, liberals and leftists, created and talked us into.

They will begin to do damage control, with the help from collaborating national media outlets, in a year, or so, after they begin the slowdown on their agenda. They'll paint B. Hussien Obama as a moderate and, even if there are Republican gains in Congress in 2010, they probably believe it won't be enough to switch the Senate majority and they'll have at least another year to push the same fiscally communist agenda and Draconian laws against Constitutional rights before the Iowa caucuses.

They want the Republicans on board to share the blame when the fecal matter hits the rotating blades. I can not see how any congressman that call himself/herself a Republican could vote for this POS, pork laden, democratic wish list.  Haste makes waste, but in this case, they need the haste to try and hide all the crap inside the bill which is waste by design.

Any Republican that does vote for this deserves to be primaried out of their seat for either not standing on their principles or being a RINO.  Make the Dems OWN this disaster, every penny of it, and remind the people, especially those who will be unemployed come Nov 2010, that it was the Dems' own "stimulus" bill that couldn't save their job...

A Republican Georgia congressman was just on Rush's show, by telephone, and confirmed that, yes, all Obama is looking to do is CYA here and spread the blame down the road.

Something else too: Apparently in his non-question-answering press conference this morning, Obama, flanked apparently by two CEOs of big businesses (IT-focused, I think), sounded a lot like Ronald Reagan.

And he said, today, that it's not him or the government that will pull us out of this mess. No, it's now American workers.

Thing is, around Jan. 9 or 10, Obama said that it was government, and government only, that could pull us out of this.

Translation: Obama's scared, knows he's in over his head, knows this pork-filled "stimulus" plan his is just that and is non-acceptable.

Viewing it all objectively, I think the public at large is still pretty well-disposed toward him, and is still in the "Willing suspension of disbelief" stage, though it's starting to wear thin.  By and large they DO want him to do something quickly, but with the press still being stuck on 'critique' mode about the first bailout passed in the waning days of the Bush administration, they are having increasing reservations about whether his proposals are rash as opposed to quick.  Conservative criticism about the pork in the pending bailout package and reservations about its pricetag are getting increasing traction.  Parenthetically, I have to say that not all of the pork criticism is entirely fair, several projects such as resodding the Mall, work on public buildings, or putting in ATV trails are items that would employ labor out of the same pool idled by the housing slump and is not illegitimate, particularly considering the assumptions from which he proceeds, and the popular mythos of the New Deal is helping him with public support thus far.

As I said, though, the tolerance is waning.  Americans don't have the patience with their leadership that they did in the 30s.

If his plan was as mighty as he proclaims, it would be in the Democrats best interest to insure that they pass it all without any Republican help - they could then paint the 'nay' voters as obstructionists , and can claim total victory for the economic recovery of the United States.

instead, he has taken a 'we will all go down together' approach which works for Obama regardless of how the plan turns out -- If its good its because of "Obama the unifier and his courageous leadership got things done" if its bad it was 'a bipartisan effort that fell short'

The speed Obama's plan is getting pushed indicates to me he clearly doesn't want there to be any time to critique the contents. All the congress critters will have time to do is read the bottom line, and insure that his/her special pork project is cared for. -- Which is what Obama wants. A Congress that cannot debate.

It's all his, win or lose, now.  Of course the recession will eventually end on its own unless his measures actually artificially prolong it, I suppose if that happens sooner rather than later he will end up with positive credit for it deserved or not.
