AP Worried Obama Rules Media With Iron Fist

On January 22 the Associated Press posted an interesting little tidbit of news about how Team Obama is treating the press. Apparently, the Obama White House is trying to force news agencies to use Obama's own, special, ostensibly "official" photographer's photos taken at Obama press conferences instead of allowing news agencies to have their own photogs present to record the event. As a result of this attempt by Obama to control his image, the AP and Reuters are a bit miffed that Obama is trying to control the press with such an iron fisted move like this.

All I have to ask is: NOW they get worried that Obama is not too dedicated to freedom of the press? After Obama is fairly elected, NOW the Old Media is beginning to question The One on his treatment of them?

    News organizations that cover the White House sparred with the Obama administration on Thursday over access issues for photographers and rules for briefings.

    Representatives from Obama's press office held a conference call with photo editors, who are concerned that the administration prefers distributing photos taken by a White House photographer in cases where photojournalists have been permitted access in the past. It was unclear whether the two sides had reached any accommodation.

Obama did not allow still photographers or video cameras into his re-do of the oath on Wednesday, either. This has also caused the press corps to belatedly raise its collective eyebrow. Reuters and the AP have refused to use the "official" photos of conferences issued by Obama's press office.

This same AP story also reports that Team Obama has refused permission for news agencies to use the actual names of administration officials issuing info on "background" even though every president before Obama has allowed the citation of administration official's names.  ...

Bill Clinton pissed off the media and they turned on him like rabid weasels.

Bush to his credit never expected them to be fair and basically said "Eff You".

Obama is going to die by the sword if he starts swinging it at the media that got him where he is.

They will bleed him out by inches if they think he is not giving them their just dues.

The MSM is Obama's (PBUH) entire reason for existance (Has a fancy french phrase, but I can't spell it). He better remember that, or this'll be an amazingly short honeymoon.

Very true. He especially has the Chicago Tribune to thank for getting him out of the Illinois Senate and to the U.S. Senate in the first place (see Blair Hull and Jack Ryan for more info).

Interesting.

We all see that he likes to play this "dog and pony" (he he I said pony) show that the media thought for some dumb reason that they ALL would be privy to.  His real efforts are down played (i.e. the non-stimulus package) and then you get stories that is WH approved like the "First 100 days in office official photographer who shows all these pictures of him doing "human" things and pumping up the kool-aid drinkers by tell them they can go to the official website and create their own photojournal of Tuesday.  WTF? 

The thing is, that office has always been more transparent than he will ever really be comfortable being.  Everyone and their dog knows how quick the media can turn on you, he really is diluted to think he wasn't going to be exempt from their expectations.  The only thing that the media likes more than a liberal in the white house is the sensational things that will sell their papers - and they are rabid when they smell fresh meat.

Seems to me that His Exaltedness will, fronted and driven my Emanuel, of course, throw a bone out to the hyenas often enough to keep the more rabid of them at bay.

Obama knows he needs the media and he's certainly not stupid. But he'll play them every bit as much as the media fawns over The One.

How funny! The MSM and the acting president find themselves in the same position.  They gotta save their butts.

You and I may soon find a very conservative media has reared its ugly head.  The Kenyan cannot function without the press he his has already pissed-off.

There are two groups here who need to save their butts.  This could be interesting. 

We may see a play by the media to cater the other (normal) half of the country.  They will do it kicking and screaming, but they must save themselves first.

It will not take long for him to piss off the Democratic leaders of Congress. When he starts dictating policies to committee chair, he will find out how the cow ate the cabbage. He ain't no LBJ. He better realize the media/Congress can make or break him.

Yes and you can bet that Pelosi, among others will not just step aside and let Obama take the power and control that they have had for some time now.

The AP is now worried about Obama? Oh, please.

Just one man's guess here, mind you, but I'd bet the advocacy/adversary media will take its lumps and do nothing, including not "turning" on Obama.

After all, they helped create this monster.

And they willingly gave up their claim to the Fourth Estate to become the traitorous Fifth Column in the past presidential-election cycle, when they become his thugs and thugettes -- and coverer-uppers and afraid-to-investigaters -- in the print and broadcast media.

They criticize him, they criticize themselves.

Given what I've seen, they don't have the stones to do that.

Hope I'm wrong, though.

Yes, the media will turn on Obama. They won't like Obama's arrogance. (Only the media is allowed to be arrogant.) And the pendulum always swings back the other way, while they try to look fair and balanced.

But when election time comes around, it will be Anyone But The Republican, and they will circle the wagons.
