Tinnitus.....
« on: January 17, 2009, 06:27:41 PM »
Anyone here ever have Tinnitus (ringing in their ears) that has lasted longer than a week?  I have had it now going on two weeks and it is driving me NUTS.  It is only in the right eat.  One of the medications I am on is said to cause it so I stopped it a week ago (Piroxicam).  Since I stopped it it hasn't gone away and the pain in my shoulder has returned.    :whatever:  This is going on 24/7, the only relief I have is when I finally go to sleep.

I called my doctor when I thought it was the medication and they want me to call back monday if it hasn't gone away by then.  I don't think it's going to go away.  My Mom has an appointment with my doctor on Monday, I'm going to take her so I can ask him what to do about it.  Anyone out there ever have to deal with it?  Do any of you have any idea how to make it stop or less noticeable?

What other meds are you taking ?? Aspirin is well known to cause tinnitus.

I've had it very noticeably for over 4 years, but realized it was starting about 20 years ago. It sucks big time.

What do you do for it?  Have you talked to a doctor about it?  I read where Xanax can help but I don't want to be on Xanax 24/7.

Right now all I'm taking is the pred forte (steroid) drops in my eye several times a day.  I also had that steroid shot in my eye two weeks ago.  Other than that I'm not taking anything else.  Oh wait I'm also using GenTeal eye drops that are for dry eye (which I got from the steroid drops).

"When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion - when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you - when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - you may know that your society is doomed."

I have it in both ears.  I have had it for months now.  Sometimes it is "louder" than others.  It can be very irritating.

I've been doing research on it.  If I find anything the actually works I'll post about it.

Thanks.  I didn't have much luck in searching for a cure.

Yes but think about how mellow and laid back you would be!  It certainly would give your political discussions a turn.

I had a few tests done, but no causes were found, so I've learned to live with it. I'm not into taking medication, except for the occasional large dose of ibuprofen, when my back hurts.

I definitely have some hearing loss, associated with that ringing in my ears which I've had a long, long time.

My ears have been beaten up by lots of trumpets and drums, not to mention really badly played saxophones. I remember also sitting on the back of an Army green weenie bus heading out for gigs. That Cummins diesel in the back was not kind.

Sorry, BEG. Can't help. But it sounds like Thor/Inga have a solution.

Well I tried a Xanax last night before I went to bed.  All it did was make me go to sleep so I have no idea if it actually stopped the ringing.   :whatever:

I'm certified as a hearing conservationist (i know, such a massive skill set).  Do you work around loud noises, or spend long periods exposed to them?  Have you had problems understanding speech, or does everything sound muffled?  You might want to get checked out by an audiologist, and don't stop taking your pred forte, you don't want hazy eyes.

No I'm not around loud noises, I didn't even listen to music on headphones or anything.  I can still hear the same as I always have, even with the ringing in my ear.  It is just in the right ear.  I think it was the piroxicam that did it.  Before I was taking the piroxicam I was taking Ibuprofen non stop.  Although it could be due to something that I will never figure out.
