There will be a relatively short username-change amnesty period starting after inauguration day. (Jan 15th 2009) Now that another presidential election is over, and a new administration is beginning, we've decided that the time has come for our second amnesty period when members can change their usernames. The primary purpose of this username-change amnesty is so people with out-dated names can change to something more appropriate. Perhaps you signed up for DU a while back with a username like "Edwards4Prez2008" or "DefeatMcSame" or "WaitingForDubyaToLeave" or "BlagojevichFan" or some other username that was perfectly relevant at the time, but now has become an anachronism. If so, username-change amnesty is for you.If you don't have a good reason to change your username, we would advise that you not change your name. In particular, if you are thinking of changing your username on a whim just because we are giving you the opportunity to do so, don't do it. Back in 2004, the last time we did a username-change amnesty, there were a bunch of people who contacted me after-the-fact because they didn't like their new username after all and they wanted to switch back to the one they used before. I can't remember whether we granted their requests or not.So, our preference is that you only change your username if you have a good reason. But we're not going to limit who can take advantage of this username-change amnesty. Anyone who wants to change their username will have the ability to do so. THINK LONG AND HARD BEFORE YOU CHANGE YOUR USERNAME. This may be your *only* opportunity to change it until 2012 (or 2016 if Obama is reelected). The username-change amnesty period will probably begin on January 21, 2009 (the day after inauguration), and will last for at least one week. So you have a few days to give this some serious thought before amnesty begins.Individuals who choose to change their usernames will have an automated signature line appended to all of their posts, which tells the world your former DU identity. This will make it easier for everyone to know who all these new people with the strange usernames are.If you have any questions, please feel free to post them in this thread. Please kick and recommend this thread so more DUers can see it.SkinnerDU Admin
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=announcement&id=300I have no idea why the "format" here is different.
There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site
I can check a box in the Admin panel to allow members to change their own name here. We turned it off because it was getting out of hand, with me included. If a member wishes to change their name, all they need to do is ask.
No, what I meant by "format" was that when I did the "search" and clicked on the link, this came up, but in a format different from that usually used on Skins's island.
That might put a crimp in the top 10 Dummies list. Then again if Underground Panther becomes "Crazy Lady turning herself into a male cat on the pooter' we might know its UP.
