The Difference between Democrats and Republicans

I found my old American government notebook recently. Here's what it said about the two parties:

Democrats: Health of the country depends on the health of its citizens, assets should be used to protect citizens.

Republicans: Government should only do for people what they cannot do for themselves (less government is better government.)

Do you agree with these statements? I personally think that the Democratic party has lost its way. We have become too "Republican-lite." Consider the differences between FDR and Bill Clinton and you will see how much the party has changed.

Yes, your party has lost its way..... big time.  It's become "The role of gov't is the redistribution of wealth and taking care of you from cradle to grave."

I would also add that the Republicans needs to get back to "Government should only do for people what they cannot do for themselves (less government is better government.)" or the base is going to tell them to take a hike.

It seems to me that a large portion of the base is already starting to tell them to take a hike.  There is a reason why they have lost both houses of Congress and now the WH.
"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." --Norman Thomas, 1944

Rush hit this one dead on -- the reason Conservatives have lost is they have stopped hewing to Conservative Principles.  We need a Reagan Renaissance in the Republican party -- I hope Jindal and Palin can spark it (I have been hearing worrying things about Steele).
