Things You Love
« on: January 05, 2009, 09:23:51 PM »
Here's a few things that make my life grand:

Freshly laundered sheets
Broccoli Cheese Soup
Bananas

What things do you love?
Stink Eye

You're asking the men on this board?  Hmmm...lemme guess here...

Bewbs.  Beerz.  Blowups.  Hot Buffalo wings (bleu cheese only, not that ranch crap.)

Yep.  Pretty much covers it.  And I'm pretty sure every male poster here will agree with at least three of the four.

The first sight upon entering a gun show.
Putting on a new pair of socks fresh out of the package.
When, on a cold day, my truck's heater actually starts blowing hot air.
The smell of burnt gunpowder.
Watching Mrs. Tantal blow-dry her hair........nekkid. :naughty:

Coffee.
The morning after a huge snow just before the sun comes up.
The ocean.
Waking up to a kiss.

-The passion in my 5-year-old granddaughter's desciption of her first love - the boy she intends to marry.  His name is Avery, and the moon must have just been hung.

-My old deaf poodle, who now walks up to his favorite chair - head first - and waits for me to lift him onto it.  It's a scam.

-The phone calls from my wife so far away.

-The contact from my kids who are so sure I am going to die alone any minute now.

-My lifelong blessing from Our Lord.

I love my life.
I love how I am never in need and even when problems or needs seem to appear, the solution is always right there if I just open my eyes and have a little patience.
I love the world and how everything in it is perfect, just like that Louis Armstrong song
I love Think-O2 tea

God's love
my nephew in all his ginger-haired innocence (or would lack of innocence be a better description, given his knack for being a little devil sometimes?  :p )
a smooch from the boyfriend at midnight on New Years Eve.  I'm surprised I still remember it, given how "gone" I was.  :uhsure: :innocent: Don't tell him I said that. :bolt: j/k

This sounds like a song from "The Sound of Music"---"these are a few of my favorite things".

My list of who and what I love:

My husband and
Long weekends together (drat, back to the old 5 day work week now)

Our greyhounds and watching the little pack interact.

The new grandbaby---he's adorable, just got a pic of him with his first smile.

Dark chocolate. My fav little girl in the world (niece's little one) put the foil wrappers back on the dark Hershey's. She spotted the dark Dove's and said she wanted the better candy.  :-)

LOL, she's learning early, isn't she?  Just be careful and make sure she doesn't discover Ghirardelli TOO early...  :uhsure::lmao:

SR and I had a little brunch for 8 yesterday. She was so happy that her mommy brought some of the pastries from Panera. There were some deep, deep chocolate pieces of cakes, along with sticky rolls and those little chocolate chip muffies.

Little Gwen had chocolate all over her face. Of course she grabbed the piece of chocolate cake.  :-) I usually give her chocolate candy to take home, but suspected my niece wouldn't be too happy for the little one to OD on chocolate.

It's soooo much fun to spoil them and then send them home.

Yeah it is.  Charlie is so easy to please though.  My mom bought him this little plastic Goldfish container meant to hold, what else, goldfish crackers... he had so much fun with that, and when the container snapped shut, he would bring it to one of us to open up for him again so he could have his treat.  He also loved to walk up to this little alligator (mom bought it for my stepdad for Christmas... we're Louisiana folk, so gifts along that theme are common) that is built somewhat like those deer you see in the yards at Christmas time, covered in lights and some have the moving heads... he would "smack" the gator and run away.  Charlie's growing up in an LSU/Ole Miss household, what do you expect?  :fuelfire: :p

Iced tea, two parts Lipton, one part peppermint.
The sound of the wind blowing thru pine trees in Colorado.
Watching kids open up Christmas presents.
a sizzling steak.
An MST3K marathon.
Knowing that the gang at CC still let me hang with them, even though I'm not cool enough.
any PM from Mama.
Fudge.

I like smokin' me some grass
Gettin' cut with glass
Sniffin' my cocaine
and pain

I like noses full of snot
Dead things when they rot
Belchin' just for fun
and scum

And I like you, too

I like smackin' little boys
Breakin' all their toys
Needles in my arm
and harm

I like spearin' little dogs
Eatin' little frogs
Screamin' in the night
and fright

And I like you, too

I like knuckles when they pop
Screamin' at a cop
Bugs around my ears
and tears

I like steppin' on a nail
Spittin' in a pail
Cookin' me a rat
and bats

And I like you, too

I like lizards in the grass
Smelling' raunchy gas
Slippin' on some ice
and lice

I like catchin' me the flu
Snails in a stew
Armpits when they're wet
and sweat

And I like you, too

I like chancres on my tongue
Sniffin' monkey dung
Scumbags of all sorts
and warts

I like barfin' on nice rugs
Chewin' little slugs
Leeches suckin' blood
and mud

And I like you, too

I like layin' in the sewer
Walkin' in manure
Coughin' up some glops
and slops

I like beatin' up some punks
Odor from some skunks
Smellin' garbage burn
and worms

And I like you, too!!!!

Seriously, hearing my two daughters laugh.

Any quiet moment with my wife.

The intro to my band's version of "Messin' with the Kid."

A Cigar outside on a crisp fall day with the outdoor fireplace going and a Bailey's Rocks.

Quiet Sunday mornings with coffee and the NYT crossword.

God never changes.

God alone suffices.

Watching someone walk down the aisle at the end of church services knowing the decision they are making will change them for eternity.  It doesn't get any better than that.

Then there's the little stuff:
Dark chocolate
My wife's cooking
Spending a few days in a cabin in the Smoky Mountains with my wife
Watching a cat having a bath on the top of a chair...and falling off.   :-)
Fall colors.

My Wife

My Son

Brewin' up a batch of homemade barbecue sauce to mop over a rack or six of babyback ribs

Flying VFR at 16,000 with visibility 10k/10mi.

Scud running at 7,000 with visibility just barely above minimums.

Feeling the mainsheet tugging in one hand and the tiller tugging in the other, and the wind in my face.

Feeling the muscles in my arms and back quivering under tension at full draw as a nice fat 8-point mulie cautiously saunters into my kill box.

Hot summers, Cold winters and spectacularly beautiful springs and falls.

Helping my son set up the tent on a camping trip.

When God teaches me a well deserved lesson

The smell in the air in Spring

a big container of rose moss in summer

eating breakfast at my favorite restaurant

watching my Granny with Alzheimer's see my son and finally wake up enough to give him a hug and talk to him

finding a $20 in my pocket from last winter

school pictures of my kids

watching movie with my hubby

seeing my family during holidays

the way my littlest niece and nephews say my name

snow

bonfires

giggling at liberals

little kid football games

All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.

- The smell of leather (walking into a tack store, or leather goods store....divine!)

- The first sip of a perfect cup of hot tea in the morning.

- Watching my daughter dance.

- A good clean hit in football.

- Any awesome double play.

- Watching a child succeed after stuggling with something.

- Lying in bed on Christmas morning and listening to the kids as they get inot their stockings in the living room.

- Holding hands with my husband.

- Hugs.

My Sweet of Heart.....

My children and grandchild....

A couple of very dear friends....

Cooking for family and friends....and seeing them enjoy the food.

Chocolate....

Fishin' on the flats off of Key West on a clear morning....before the sun gets high and the fish are just startin' to wake up.....a barracuda comin' cross the flats, grabbin' the tube lure, takin' off with it, the line zippin' through the reel. Catchin' it.....lettin' it go and seein' it swim off.

Curling up with one or more of the cats, a good book, a cup of tea and my blanket on a rainy or cold afternoon.

Chocolate.....

Holding a new baby.....knowing that God has created yet another miracle.

Walking into St Peter's Basilica and just knowing that God was there with me.

Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Save the Earth... it's the only planet with chocolate.

"My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far I've finished two bags of M&M's and a chocolate cake. I feel better already." – Dave Barry

A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands.
