NEW YORK -- NBC News denied Monday that conservative author Ann Coulter has been banned from the network after "Today" dropped her from Tuesday's program because of breaking-news events.

The Coulter incident garnered huge headlines, which reported that network sources said NBC was not going to allow the frequent guest to appear any more.

That's not true, NBC News said Monday. Coulter's segment was dropped from the schedule because of news that the show was expecting to cover in the Gaza Strip with the Israeli military action there and in Washington with the Obama transition. "Today" had booked former British prime minister Tony Blair. Coulter was to promote her new book, "Guilty: Liberal 'Victims' and Their Assault on America."

"We've had Ann Coulter on 'Today' many times, but because of the news in Washington and the Middle East, we decided to cancel her appearance tomorrow," NBC News said in a statement Monday. "Understanding the media as well as she does, we are sure she knows this happens from time to time. We look forward to welcoming her back in the future."

All the more reason not to watch one NBC program again. Remember your TV history, This is the same network that cancelled "Star Trek" after two seasons untill the infamous letter campain and later gave us "Hello Larry".

Ah, yes, but there would have been no Hello Larry had McLean Stevenson had been satisfied with success.  I'm not absolving NBC.

NBC sucks for getting rid of Saturday Morning Cartoons in the early 1990s. They had Captain N and he was canned.

I don't remember Captain N but my two favorite cartoons from the 1990's were The Tick and Phantom 2040.

Well, Gaza is  a big story, and it is a legitimate excuse.


Of course, I think more people are interested in Anne's view of the crisis  than they are in the views of Annie Lennox, who  has been on shows a lot as spokesweirdo for some group or another.

In any case, NBC hasn't lost my custom over this.   I havn't watched NBC in years anyway.  (I don't have TV anymore)

Actually, that was a good interview.... well, on Ann's side. You can see Harry Smith trying to hide his seething anger while he's talking to her.

Ann was on with Andrew Wilkow this afternoon and confirmed that NBC had dumped her appearence...but said she'll be back on tomorrow.

She said NBC backed down because of the reporting on what happened.
