New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, tapped in December by President-elect Barack Obama to serve as secretary of Commerce, has withdrawn his name for the position, citing a pending investigation into a company that has done business with his state.

"Let me say unequivocally that I and my Administration have acted properly in all matters and that this investigation will bear out that fact," he said Sunday in a report by NBC News. "But I have concluded that the ongoing investigation also would have forced an untenable delay in the confirmation process."

He said he plans to continue in his role as governor. "I appreciate the confidence President-elect Obama has shown in me, and value our friendship and working partnership. I told him that I am eager to serve in the future in any way he deems useful. And like all Americans, I pray for his success and the success of our beloved country."

Obama said Sunday he accepted Richardson's decision to withdraw with 'deep regret.'

"Governor Richardson is an outstanding public servant and would have brought to the job of Commerce Secretary and our economic team great insights accumulated through an extraordinary career in federal and state office," Obama said.

The claims against Richardson don't seem to be going anywnere. I think Richardson just doesn't like the way he see things in Team Obama shaping up. He used the going nowhere investigation against him as an out.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson on Sunday announced that he was withdrawing his nomination to be President-elect Barack Obama's commerce secretary amid a grand jury investigation into how some of his political donors won a lucrative state contract.

Richardson's withdrawal was the first disruption of Obama's Cabinet process and the second "pay-to-play" investigation that has touched Obama's transition to the presidency. The president-elect has remained above the fray in both the case of arrested Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and the New Mexico case.


Its not even a month left before the corination and they are dropping out.

I've never before seen an administration fall apart before it got rolling. 

It's like Election Day was the day the toilet got unclogged.  Now all the sh*t is free to flow.  Funny, that is. 

Now we see a rush to get all the sh*t out of the sewer line and into the main line before Party Day.   

That the sh*t in the toilet was never brought to anyones attention before Election Day is a national shame.

Yepppers. It didn't matter what position Richardson took in the O administration he would be the most experienced person of all bar none. Ironically the O man himself the least experienced.

I'm guessing Richardson got briefed on some of the O mans economic plans and doesn't want to be associated with them. That and taking orders out of Chicago.

Now Barack Hussein Obama's people are saying that Richardson didn't disclose enough information to them. Richardson denies that. Since they're both Democrats, I don't know which one to believe. Probably neither is the best bet.

Some think that the Klinton's masterminded this ouster, payback for "Judas" Richardson not supporting Hillary last year.

I don't think he had to do anything.  I think he saw & heard some of the O teams plans and decided for self preservation reasons not to be associated with them. The O teams claim of nondisclosure is BS.

this is the same bill richardson that was a member of the clinton administration.  I tend to doubt that there is much thinking going on in that man's head in the first place.  not surprising that he has gotten himself entangled in a shady deal, though.  that's sort of a clinton trademark.  touch pitch, & etc.

Thats my point. Obviously at one time it was considered no big deal. Now Richardson is using it as as an excuse to make a clean break away. The O batrons are using it as an excuse to claim they showed Bill the door.
