Obama keeps silent on explosive Gaza conflict

Jan 3 05:41 PM US/Eastern

<excerpt>

As the clock ticks down to Barack Obama's inauguration, the US president-elect has kept silent on the decades-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its latest deadly turn in the Gaza Strip.
Obama transition officials have ventured little more than saying their boss is "monitoring" the situation in Gaza, where at least 460 people have been killed in eight days of air raids before a ground offensive began Saturday.

In the same period, Gaza militant rockets have killed four Israelis and wounded several dozen people.

"The president-elect is closely monitoring global events, including the situation in Gaza," his national security spokeswoman Brooke Anderson said in a statement after the ground assault got underway.

But she offered no further comment on the violence in Gaza and used a phrase repeated often by Obama and his aides: "There is one president at a time and we intend to respect that."

=============================================================================================

(edit: emphasis mine)

Ah, so this is leadership, eh?  Running the country from the front, not being an empty suit?  Oh, God--if Obama weren't such a disaster in the making, this might actually be funny to watch the next four years.

And since when did the "one president at a time" bit matter during the campaign?  Am I the only one who has noticed that?

Never fear.  He will take a strong stance on Gaza in about 17 days.

So you'd rather he be stepping all over President Bush's toes on this and other things?

I'd rather he keep his mouth shut on the matter until he's sworn in, and let the people who are responsible for it right now deal with it.

Problem is, he hasn't kept his mouth shut yet.  He never worried about stepping on Bush's toes vis-a-vis Iraq, etc., yet now that he might actually have to DEAL with this issue, he's "monitoring global events"?  Really?

Sorry, but from what I've seen so far this guy is a total deer in the headlights.  He is WAY, WAY, WAY! out of his league, and he's beginning to realize it.  But don't dare point that out, right boys and girls?

Bingo! Nail on the head. H5.
Pelosi has come out on Israel's side. But the rats are fair weather friends.
At some point every rat turns on you.

When Big O supports Israel's right to defend herself (political realities will mandate that position) the arab world will go nuts. Palestinians sent him money, manned phone banks for him.
Read DU, they have sided with Hamas murderers.

Everybody, don't worry about it. I'm sure the new president elect will carefully weigh all the options, look on both sides of the conflict, consult with his foreign policy advisers.............. and vote "present".  :lmao:

After consulting the polls......someone else used to do that.

On second thought, the new Obama fur'n policy is, "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt."

I would add to that a pinch of Manchurian candidate and it would be a perfect summation.

Conservatives imagine the best government is the government that does as little as it can.

In this Obama may inadvertently become the a conservative president.

Dunno about that. First, I want my gummint to do what the Constitution says - and not much more. In other words, stay the hell out of my way and my life. Forget pumping millions into studying the sex life of gerbils and whether or not the potted petunia is endangered. Assign sufficient resources to protect the nation from foreign and domestic enemies. Infrastructure, etc.

The Exalted One is merely holding his cards until Bush cashes in his chips. While I agree that Obama's absolute, No. 1 top priority is to be reelected in 2012 and will play the centrist game a la Slick Willie, underneath it all he is a rabid, extreme left-winger and will not deviate from that path.

He will be confronted by political reality, but I do believe that His Holiness is persistent. Like a broccoli fart is persistent. Yunno?

Not really.  His eminence grice handlers have quite an agenda and will pull his strings to ensure that agenda is fulfilled.

Obana and his retreads from the Clinton Admin. don't have a clue. They are trying to sus it out, based on what we do with this little war.
After Reagan, we got Reagan light with Bush 42, then we got Clinton, and got still lighter and slightly on the yellow side  Reagan. Foreign policy, of course.

Now we get Bush 43 lighter and more uninfoemed. PERFECT! :banghead:

Somebody in the international community doesn't like the Obamessiah's response . . .

Quote
Obama is losing a battle he doesn't know he's in

The president-elect's silence on the Gaza crisis is undermining his reputation in the Middle East

Simon Tisdall guardian.co.uk, Sunday 4 January 2009 15.55 GMT Article history

Barack Obama's chances of making a fresh start in US relations with the Muslim world, and the Middle East in particular, appear to diminish with each new wave of Israeli attacks on Palestinian targets in Gaza. That seems hardly fair, given the president-elect does not take office until January 20. But foreign wars don't wait for Washington inaugurations.

Obama has remained wholly silent during the Gaza crisis. His aides say he is following established protocol that the US has only one president at a time. Hillary Clinton, his designated secretary of state, and Joe Biden, the vice-president-elect and foreign policy expert, have also been uncharacteristically taciturn on the subject.

But evidence is mounting that Obama is already losing ground among key Arab and Muslim audiences that cannot understand why, given his promise of change, he has not spoken out. Arab commentators and editorialists say there is growing disappointment at Obama's detachment - and that his failure to distance himself from George Bush's strongly pro-Israeli stance is encouraging the belief that he either shares Bush's bias or simply does not care.

The Al-Jazeera satellite television station recently broadcast footage of Obama on holiday in Hawaii, wearing shorts and playing golf, juxtaposed with scenes of bloodshed and mayhem in Gaza. Its report criticising "the deafening silence from the Obama team" suggested Obama is losing a battle of perceptions among Muslims that he may not realise has even begun.

"People recall his campaign slogan of change and hoped that it would apply to the Palestinian situation," Jordanian analyst Labib Kamhawi told Liz Sly of the Chicago Tribune. "So they look at his silence as a negative sign. They think he is condoning what happened in Gaza because he's not expressing any opinion."

Let the feeding frenzy begin!

I saw the link on Drudge.  Isn't it wonderful knowing that no matter what he does, he's gonna get hammered for it?  Welcome to the presidency, Zerobama.  Hope it was all you wanted to change, you empty-suited tool.

Barack Hussein Obama is going to have to say something very soon - the right think he's siding with the terrorists out of loyalty, the left thinks the silence means he agrees with Bush. In over his head before he even steps in the water.

........
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.
