Lobbyist linked by Times to McCain sues paper

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) â€” A Washington lobbyist is suing The New York Times over an article that she says gave the false impression she had an affair with Sen. John McCain in 1999.

Vicki L. Iseman filed the $27 million defamation suit in U.S. District Court in Richmond on Tuesday. It also names as defendants the Times' executive editor, its Washington bureau chief and four reporters.

The newspaper did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Iseman represented telecommunications companies before the Senate Commerce Committee, which McCain chaired. In February, as McCain was seeking the Republican presidential nomination, the Times reported that McCain aides once worried the relationship between Iseman and McCain had turned romantic.

At the time, McCain denounced the story as false. Iseman also denied it later.

How ****in sad is it that the National Enquirer is 1--more reputable, 2--more accurate, 3--worth more than the so-called, "Paper of Record"?

it was a scurrilous hit piece, and the NYT ran it just as mccain began to gather momentum. it would be poetic justice if she nailed them for deflation over the whole episode.

oh, and this was as they were ignoring the edwards affair, BTW.

I would have THOUGHT that I had already known that conservatives were capable of a debate, irrespective of the woman.

Well, I certainly am not one to lessen someone's pain and agony, especially over such a hot babe as this one (high maintenance doesn't seem to strike a chord?), but I'd say the reaction that has so far been tendered has been tempered somewhat due to the fact that the woman in question is a LOBBYIST.

Gotta work the cobwebs loose before real commentary can begin.
