Tuesday. Is there a Catcher in your Rye?

Windy, cold and sunny.

My daughter has my flu and is grumping. Mancub seems to be resisting it at this point though.  My better half went back to work yesterday and is dealing with 47 different crisis' that have cropped up over her vacation.

We are into the 2nd season of Dexter now and I am totally hooked on this show!  I have to admire writers who can get you rooting for a brutal serial killer.  :p

Looking forward to New Years Day and tearing down the tree.  The lower branches have drooped so much that the ornaments are sliding off in the middle of the night. :-)

Well, I've spent all morning fixing up the cashiers screw ups.  If they checked this stuff like they're supposed to before sending it over to me, then I wouldn't have to waste time doing this crap.  But then that would require them to actually do their job.  This is after spending yesterday hunting down $115 that they were short.   :banghead:


Am I the only one that didn't care for The Catcher in the Rye?  Maybe it's because was around 22 when I finally read it and not full of teenage angst.  I just wanted to tell Holden to grow the f*** up.

Probably the single most over rated book in history with the collected works of Tolstoy running a close second.  And don't get me started on the bulk of Dickenson.

Actually I meant Dickinson, Emily but misspelled her last name.

Although with the exception of "A Christmas Carol" Dickens pretty much blows. :-)

I know you meant Dickinson.  :)  It just reminded me of the time I told WE that I'd rather stab myself in the eyes with a spoon than read Dickens.    :-)

I liked it...but I think I was abourt 13 or 14 when I read it....


Showing houses this afternoon.....big ones!!! Had someone referred to me a couple of months ago and talked to him then and they weren't in any hurry. Got an email on Sunday night and they are now ready to go shopping.... :-)....they narrowed 220 houses that I emailed them down to 48 and now down to 9.

Let me tell you about a stupid seller ..... tried to schedule an appointment for this afternoon. Told the agency secretary that they didn't have to leave the house (she told me they worked from home) nor did they have to pick it all up. She appreciated my cooperation. She called the seller.....and they said NO!!! no showing until late next week!!!! House has been on the market for 253 days....reduced $50,000 from $499900 to $459900....and they don't want it shown to an approved buyer!!!!!!  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

In this market, that is just flat out stupid!!!! There are 220 houses in this specific small area between $300-500K currently on the market and they refused a showing! There are over 500 mls area currently on the market that theoretically they are competing with....let alone the rest of the county! The other 8 houses I scheduled are all vacant. These are the type of people who will bitch to their agent that the agent isn't doing enough to sell their house...... :thatsright: ...you have to let people into the house to sell it!!!

That's very stupid.  When my dad was looking at condos, he had settled on this one (which is a co-workers) and wanted to see it one last time before making an offer.  The dumbass co-worker said no, but my dad's realtor talked to the other realtor and they still went in.  Everyone at work told the co-worker he was a dumbass for saying no, that you just don't do that when you're trying to sell in this market.

I enjoyed CITR when I was in high-school, but after re-reading it later on, I realized just how over-rated it was. 

One of my favorite novels I read in my HS/ early college years (and still today) was "Far From the Madding Crowd" by Thomas Hardy.  My professor really made it an interesting read, with all of the class discussions. 

Classics are still better than most of what has been written today.  Call me a book snob, but modern books,  like the Shopaholic series (yes, I read them  :innocent: ) will never compare to anything like Pride and Prejudice (another favorite of mine) or Far From The Madding Crowd.

Of today's books, Harry Potter still ranks #1 for me.  :-)

Okay, I'll stop talking about books now.

My 6 is nice and clean now.  I just spent 54 bucks getting an oil change and top-of-the-line car wash.   Funny how a clean car actually attracts people (I rarely get car washes  :thatsright: ).  I had a couple other customers ask me about the reliability and gas mileage of the Mazda 6.  Well, when the car can get darn close to 600 miles on one tank (all interstate driving), I'd say that's pretty good.   :cheersmate:   And I might have just given Jim Ellis Mazda one or two new sales.   :p

Did two jobs which were supposed to take 24 man-hours in just under 7 1/2.  I am SO screwed.  I feel like Scotty--"How else am I suppos' ta keep me reputation as a miracle workah?"

Cold(er) and windy, with snow coming tonight.  We got a dusting this morning of about an inch but that's pretty much either off the roads or blown away.  3-5 inches tomorrow, more over the weekend. 

They asked me if I wanted to come in this weekend, turned it down despite taking last Friday off without pay.  Face it, from mid-January through mid-March, I'm going to have NO time off.  Good money, crappy quality of life.

And I never really got into any of the above.  I guess my HS English teachers were far more sadistic than I realized, giving us Castaneda, Ayn Rand (yes, she really did), Turgenev, and Camus.  Oh, goody.

No Dickens?  Seriously A Tale of Two Cities classifies as torture. 

My favorite book that we read in high school was Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston

I could not agree more, that was one of the most painful reads I have ever had, even Dostoyevskiy's Crime and Punishment was more readable.

I somehow avoided ever having to read Catcher in the Rye and have no real desire to question that blessing.  The one thing I read which most impressed me as great writing in high school, though heartily disliked by most of my peers, was Heart of Darkness.  That Conrad guy was one writin' sumbitch.

For A Tale of Two Cities, I think I got 20 pages in and said "F this" and got the Cliffs Notes for it.  Hey, I still passed my exam over it.  LOL!

I have to say Watership Down was also horrible.  Stupid rabbits, just dig a freaking hole and live there!

I suspect nobody's heard of her, but my favorite southern writer is Eudora Welty.

About the only "Classic" literature that I really enjoy is Kipling.

Given a choice between having my leg sawed off with dental floss or trying to read Dostoyevskiy again...
