I was ahead of all of you. I didn't put up any decorations this year.
We "skip" Christmas every other year since our kiddo goes to visit his dad and their family. We alternate years and when he was little, I would decorate the entire house, pull out the big tree and make it look like the North Pole in here. Problem was that he would leave several days before Christmas and not return until after New Year's so the decorations seemed a bit much to my way of thinking. My son told me I'd better decorate every year or else I was Mrs. Grinch so I did until this year when he said, "Mom, why are you dragging all of that out?" "No sense in killing yourself to decorate since we aren't doing our Christmas until after New Year's anyway. We don't need all of that to get into the holiday spirit." Hubby could go either way and I think he's relieved to NOT have to climb stairs and contort himself to get boxes down from storage.
I thought I would miss the tree and decorations but I didn't! We still have gifts to open and a special meal to celebrate when kiddo returns. And nothing to clean up! Whoo hoo!
