notice to lurking primitives (update 07-29-09)
« on: December 17, 2008, 01:24:03 PM »
This is information for lurking primitives only; decent and civilized people can ignore it and move on to other things.

As the primitives know, our old home, conservativeunderground, is the web-site that my fellow alum Skins prohibits from mention or linkage on Skins's island.

Why conservativeunderground is "the site that shall not be named" is a long story, so never mind.

My fellow alum Skins allows primitives to mention, and to link to, other conservative web-sites.  In fact, freerepublic, the biggest and the best, is mentioned, and linked to, several times a day on Skins's island.

conservativecave is NOT "the site that shall not be named."

Carry on.

Where can i find out the reason why they are not allowed to mention CU on Du?

Thanks coach :)

Here is what I know, which might, or might not, be correct:

The people who founded our old home, before they founded our old home, being disgusted and distressed at the Hate on Skins's island, were for a short time actual members there, protesting against the Hate.

They of course were quickly mausoleumed.

And so our old home was founded, to mock the primitives.

My fellow alum Skins didn't like it, and so immediately forbade mention of our old home.

Again, this information might, or might not, be accurate.

Its makes sense with DU to banish or forbid anyone to mention a site that mocks them

It's a long story, so I'll give you the cliff's notes version.

Sometime in 2004, links to CU were prevalent.  There wasn't even a Best/Worst forum.  When that forum started getting hopping, $kimmer checked it out and made CU "the site that shall not be named."

I was at CU when the B/W forum was created.  Zeus was there, as was Dark Halo, so they too could confirm.

I found CU from someone mentioning it at DU in January, 2004, as I came to find out others at CU had done also.  We started talking about the site, and bringing over threads at which to poke fun, and there got to be so many that RobCrook created the B/W forum to house them all around mid-February, 2004.

There was a certain CUer, a lib named ElectroPrincess (on-line friend of SLW) who also posted at the DUmp, that commented when the B/W forum was created "Oh boy, you've done it now!!"  I remember responding to her post with a comment like "No way!  They won't care that we're over here poking fun at them."  OK, I admit I made the wrong call there.

CU was not "the site that shall not be named" for a month or two until around April, 2004.  That's when a poster named supercrash started a thread at the DUmp on someone ripping him to shreads and linked to the thread at CU.  He came over to CU, several others from the DUmp followed, and to avoid what, I suppose, could be a board war, Skin's made it illegal to mention the name "CU."  Given the primitives inability to follow the good advise of their leader, they desired to continue to make reference to the site, and thus the name "the site that shall not be named."

The only other forum I know that gets that designation is a Deaniac shoot-off from the DUmp called "peopleforchange" a/k/a P4C which started up in April/May, 2004.

I became aware of Skins's island in late January, early February, 2001; it opened up the day George Bush was inaugurated president, Alphonse Capote Gore having tried to steal Florida, and failed.

I registered there, but due to modesty, because I didn't have a whole lot to say, I didn't say much.

But for a couple of years, I paid it little attention, looking at it maybe once or twice a week, four or five minutes at a time.  The Bostonian Drunkard even back then, in his more youthful days, was boring.

I had been lurking at freerepublic since late 1998 (but never became a member there until October 2003, as I'm not the sort of person who arrogantly shoves himself into a web-site; I like to get used to things first), and once in a while Skins's island was mentioned, which inspired me to look at it a little more often.

But it wasn't until the advent of P-J Comix's most-excellent DUmmie FUnnies the autumn of 2004, that I began paying attention.  Autumn 2004 was when Doug's ex-wife et al. came aboard there, and one could sense mischief was afoot.

And then during Doug's ex-wife's mischief, I became aware of our old home, "the site that shall not be named," and got out the boat and rowed over to Skins's island somewhat more often.

While we were still over at our old home, I paid attention to only "General Discussion" on Skins's island; in fact, I wasn't even aware any other forums existed.

It takes me time to learn things.

However, one has to agree that most primitives also think "General Discussion" is the only forum on Skins's island.  It's hip, it's cool, it's trendy, it's with it, to be in "General Discussion," and if aware of other forums, the primitives think those other forums aren't important.

The primitives want to be hip, cool, trendy, with it.

It wasn't until we all migrated over here from our old home that I became aware of these other forums.  Being named a moderator here, I felt a moral obligation to post the best that one could find on Skins's island, and so I motivated myself to go exploring.

I'm still exploring; it's been a long process, but then and again, one has to remember the nature of Skins's island, small, congested with primitives, congested with all sorts of flora and fauna, things utterly alien to decent and civilized people.

No, you can mention Kos and people post links to it.

I personally joined DU in March of 2005.  I soon learned of CU.  I can't remember when I joined there, sometime later that year.

Kos and MSNBC are practially the same thing.  You can't mention one without bringing up the other.

And there's that Olbermann guy.

Sometimes the moderators remove the references, sometimes they lock the thread with something like, "We don't want to give that site traffic."  They do the same with certain CT sites.  I can understand getting rid of some of the CT sites since they're even nuttier than DU, but never got the reason CU couldn't be linked.  There must be more behind it than just refusing to give traffic.

Haven't noticed if they've thrown in PI or DW.   There are always DUmmies denigrating the Island and Skins on those two sites using the same posting name they use at DU.

Is that really the case? Or are they allowed to spew their garbage -- knowing that lusty debate generally occurs afterwards?

I think the chew toy thing comes in a little later after the error of their ways has been illustrated.

The little I've seen of DU (very, very little) tells me that they are quick to dispose of a poster who doesn't run lock-step with that crowd of primitives. I'd like to think that this place is a little more accommodating.

That is an accurate sentiment.  It takes very little to get kicked off $kinner's island.  Even during the Obillary wars you had to be careful how much you said bad about the other candidate.

You have to be a super-duper-quadruper jerk to get kicked off here.

I wonder why I am still here...?

All three people had to do on Friday was vote on a poll and Skinner banned their asses post-haste.

I find it interesting that a place with the word "democratic" in its name won't even allow secret polls.

I don't know if the ones we have here are secret -- I suspect the mods here just don't give a damn what anyone votes in a poll.

In response to Original Post

I am kirby who was banned. The ridiculous part of this is that it is was a misunderstanding. After I was banned without any warning or notice (just could not login), I started scratching my head to figure out what the heck I had done. I came across Skinners post above.

The poll in question was 'Is it hate speech to say that homosexuality is like incest and pedophilia?' and the context was Rick Warren being chosen to give the invocation.
Well when I quickly read this poll and voted, I mistakenly thought the question was 'hate crime', not 'hate speech'. I voted no because I did not think someones hateful speech should land them in prison charged with a hate crime. That seemed Orwellian to me.

I sent an email to DU to explain this misunderstanding, but they have ignored it so far.

As someone who supports gay rights and someone who had been on DU for almost 2 years (and donated), I felt unfairly punished and publicly embarrassed due to a simple misunderstanding. Talk about Draconian. I never got an email or a PM where I could have clarified what happened. And in this instance, he posted the three people who voted no (privacy policy violated?), banned me, and locked the thread so I never had a chance to correct the record.
