I love dickens so much that I have rationed myself.  he only has so many novels;  I didn't want to read them all too soon in life.

You can always read them more than once.  I say for myself, one can never have too much of the Dickens.

You can speak more simply? NO, don't do it.  All those folks worked so hard.  You must never go back to being called "Slingblade".  It's just not right.

the thing about dickens is that his novels always seems to end in some sort of artificially created "substitute" family.  a reflection of Dicken's unhappy childhood, i assume.

I think you have something there, and his characters (mostly) were grown up when they realized their happiness.

I can imagine you being Pip.

we are at the penultimate chapter;  where the bad guy gets crushed by his past, and gets his just reward.  ralph nickleby hangs himself, in this particular novel.

All this Dickens talk detracts from the music thread.

Do you like the new title?   :-)

it's over, and I am sad because of that.

Our Mutual Friend is Dickens' last complete novel, and greatest work, in my opinion.  he explores the duality of man in a way that hasn't been touched since.
