Went to the big meeting with the Big Boss Lady. She's the director of the organization I work for. She gave us more information about the impending layoffs.

We'll be notified mid-January whether or not we will be staying. They were iffy on criteria but it sounds like seniority means jack shit to them. Not that I've been there for twenty years or anything. They are basing it on our job descriptions and whether or not our roles still play a vital role in the organizations big mission.

I don't feel a sense of dread, but I don't feel like I'm in the clear yet either. I just flat out wish I knew already.

On a positive note, if I do get laid off, I'll get six months paid administrative leave which includes all the extra benefits (healthcare, retirement, etc.). Plus, unused vacation time will be reimbursed. So I'll have a little bit of financial cushion.

All this being said...

I COULD USE A DRINK RIGHT ABOUT NOW.

I feel your pain, jen.  things are stressful all over, including where I work.  keep your chin up.  I wish I could say something more encouraging, but if you give me the name of your fave bar hangout, I will phone in your bar tab for tonight.  :cheersmate:    :-)

I made a new martini...a drink I had in the 80's...GreyGoose, ginger ale and a splash of cranberry, served with a cherry...

Yes! And they all ended up getting plowed by the end of the night. Michael buys 20 or so bottles of vodka and asks the clerk if that's enough for an office of 15.  :lmao:

The temps have done a super drop and with all the rain it's really damp.

When I got home around 5 I was cold.....had hot cinnamon tea with HOT DAMN cinnamon schnapps and whip cream on top.  :-) Methinks I need another one.... :-)

We went to this long time family owned cafeteria...homemade southern cooking..... for lunch and super pigged out....huge slice of meat loaf and gravy, country style green beans, buttered broccoli, homemade rolls and chess pie....it was scrumptious but I think I'm skipping dinner....  :whatever:

Heard some really bad news today.

A guy we've known for years, went to a Christmas party on Tuesday night, had too much to drink, drove home, pulled into his garage, closed the door, fell asleep or passed out in the car....never turning the car off.

45 years old.....dead of carbon monoxide poisoning.

I just saw him last Saturday night....he hung out at the same restaurant/bar that we do.....

Be careful at all the parties....take a cab.

That's horrible...but makes me glad I don't have a garage.

Apparently he had a habit of falling asleep in the car after he pulled in the garage. He just had always remembered to turn the car off before. He was single and ran around with a bunch of single guys that were "heavy partiers".....been a shock to everyone.
