primitives dreaming of a General Strike

Well now, quite obviously a General Strike is something the primitives expect other people to do, for quite obvious reasons.  Few primitives are employed, and so can't strike.

Has anyone called for a General Strike?

A day of general striking, across all industries? This is a union method, and I want to know if anyone in this country is willing to lead such a thing. Is this not what they do in France? Shut the country down for a day?

For Pete's sake, we have to start taking to the streets, folks. The 'they' they are coming for is all of US.

It's a big bonfire, as usual all talk and no action.

It starts out with a spat about "Agent Mike," and then things get back on track.

Just a general (small g) day of NO WORK in this country. I am for taking it to the streets, folks. We are pretty close to having not much to lose. I really don't feel like we can hang on until the 20th.

I agree with the poster on minimalism, to a point, but then I am just punishing folks who sell me food, clothing, necessities.

In other words, just another normal routine day in the life of the primitives.

30. Nope. It has be called a STRIKE, not a consumer mentality "opt out" day. 

There is solidarity in a strike. There is no solidarity in "buy nothing day" or "opt of out work day".

In reality, even if one day was taken off of work the capitalists will treat it as if it were an unexpected holiday. The power of a strike lay in the reality that no one knows when it will end.

For the past decade, demonstrations have only demonstrated our weakness. It's time to do things for real and put pressure on the ruling class. Of course, a political will is necessary and that isn't there yet.

Can anyone point out where a unionized company is working well?

Not the auto industry.

Not the public education sector.

Not government.

I truly can't think of any sector that has been unionized that has not failed and sent those jobs overseas or been replaced with automation.  Maybe mining but Obama is going to bankrupt the coal industry.

Meh.  Posting from work.  Home still without power.  We might be out a week.  Parts of Derry and some other towns (Washington) might be out for double that.

Got two 5-gallon gas cans in the back to fill up on the way home.  Other than that, can't complain.

I recall a few in college always blathering about 'the Revolution' and trying to whip up 'the People' for strikes.  Ironically, they were all kids of prominent lawyers and old money.

You'd be surprised how many primitives are trust fund kids.

The power came back on here about 9:30 last night.
I was doing fine....found an old oven rack and made a stand of small pieces of wood in the outdoor furnace last night and had venison cheeseburgers.

It is nice to not hear the generator outside droning on though.
All things considerd I think National Grid did a great job considering the extent of the outage but I suppose that is easy for me to say as I didn`t have that much difficulty.
