One last note before I go to bed: I'm half American Indian. Smoke is a sacrament for us.

You can find ALL MANNER of posts on DU, defending the other "herb," so why not this herb?

Why not? What's the double standard at work here? I offer smoke to the Four Winds every time I light up, along with offering salt to those same Four Winds before I eat. Do you do the same with your marijuana, or is it just for fun, and therefore SO less evil than my tobacco?

I know a double-standard when I see one, and this is one of them.

Apparently this is a reaction to the primitives whining about smokers; it's a very large bonfire, the primitives dancing around at odds with each other, but no real Hate and acrimony among them.

Alas, I was a nicotine addict for fifteen years or so, and I can only speak for myself, but I'm sorry to report that there was nothing sacred about my addiction. I'm glad to hear that yours is more spiritually fulfilling.

Like, were the smokers who died also drinkers, and if so, which one was the actual cause of their death?

Were the drunk drivers who killed not only themselves, but others, non-smokers?

Your statement seems kind of broad and imo, leaves out a lot of co-factors that may have lead to someone's death.

Last I checked, the death rate for humans was 100%.

Reading must be a cause of death. Every single reader dies, don't they? That is 100% right there. Pretty deadly.

45. I used to smoke the 'baca herb back years ago for way more years than I like to admit but I've been tobacco free now since August of '77. I am disabled today with PAD and my doc tells me that the tobacco use I used to do is the primary reason for that. My dad smoked Prince Albert all the way up to the day he died and it was not tobacco that killed him either it was living a long life. 77 years of long life.

By the way, what does the insane Sooner primitive mean by "PAD"?

I read an article not long ago about Cigarette Hysteria Syndrome (CHS) (my term).  It explained how the most dangerous smoke is the smoke being blown up our collective asses about the dangers of cigarettes.  It was a very reasonable article, not biased towards smoking.  It was an article examining the truths and the myths and the purposeful misleading statistics on  the subject.

This goes back to my post about how primitives like to belong to groups of victims, whether they really belong there or not.

If the bird-smacking stoned red-faced primitive is in fact half Native American, unless he is originally from west of the Missouri River who later moved to Massachusetts, he doesn't deserve this "half victim" tag, as eastern Native Americans were assimilated (or extinguished) a very long time ago.

One doubts, really, the bird-smacking stoned red-faced primitive has ever confronted in his life the perils, the hazards, the prejudice, with which authentic Native Americans face every day of their lives.

The bird-smacking stoned red-faced primitive of course is a clumsy dreamer, a fantasizer, as betrayed by his preference for "cowboy" garb, which makes him look not like a cowboy, but just simply ridiculous.

And very true about assimilation/annihilation of Indian culture. I have pictures of my husband's ancestors from the 1800's. Being Cherokee, they were one of the Five Civilized Tribes. All of them are wearing Western clothing/hairstyles. The little Indian women in the skirts and parasols at the University are quite fetching.

I am at least half of a half Indian, at least.  My maternal great-grandmother was a "sitting princess" of a tribe.  My maternal grandmother and grandfather were three-quarters Indians.  My dad came from Indians too.  So......but....

I have never understood this social weeping over lost Indian "culture".  It has been my life experience that cream rises to the top.  If the culture was so grand it would have survived.  That's just life on the planet earth.

The stories I know about "Indian culture" do not lead me to believe the Indians were, at one time, mystical all-seeing people at one with nature.  The truth is they were primitive and not fond of change.  A lot of them were plainly savages.  A lot of them were nomads with no particular allegiance to any land.  I don't see much in their culture to celebrate or lead to mourning of the loss.

True. They were warring with each other long before the White Man came. Nothing really noble about them. They get elevated to victimhood by historians. But let's face it, the ones who were truly brutalized are all dead. Yes, my Indian ancestors were killed, had their land taken, forcibly removed, etc...it really was horrible. But just like slavery, it's over. None of the people alive today were victims nor perpetrators of these atrocities. We've all move on as a nation and we have an entire govt entity that protects and coddles the Natives alive today. And a lot of them are very adept at suckling on the great teat and claiming "victim". They can claim nothing more than DNA - they do not suffer at the hands of anyone but themselves now.

But of course, liberals love victims. Even if they are long gone and now dust in ground.
