HRC is a joke
Where is a real activist organization? I spoke with one of their outreach people tonight and was thoroughly unimpressed. The man was straight for crissakes.
They've had one failure after another and we keep giving them money? Bullshit.
Now, when I got to this bonfire, I thought it was about the junior U.S. Senator from New York, this "HRC" thing, and it'd be natural to find the cboy4 primitive at it, defending the worthier candidate for the Democrat nomination, but I was wrong.
Apparently "HRC" means "Human Rights Commission." Or something like that?

1. I have my problems with the HRC but the outreach workers should be straight
it is to them we have to reach out. Clearly not all of them should be but some should.

2. So... straight people can't be in favor of equal rights for all?

3. My life partner is straight...
Should he and I stop working for GLBT civil rights?

6. Yea. And I apologize. You of all people don't deserve to be indirectly insulted by non-productive rants like this.
You know, I'm wondering if franksolich and the cboy4 primitive share a mannerism in common, with this "Yea" or "Yeah" bit.
I do that a lot; it's kind of a laid-back, casual, mellow, drawled-out sort of "Yeah," acknowledging two things at the same time: (a) one hasn't been paying attention to what's being said and (b) the half-awake slowly-dawning realization that what's being said is something one hasn't thought of before.
As if one's sort of stoned or something.

8. You have no need to apologize.
I find the "hit and run" here rather ironic.

7. I suggest you get active locally in civil rights organizations.
You'll probably meet a lot of straight allies that have actively fought side by side with the LGBT community for many years.
My hope is that you wouldn't let one random encounter inform your impression about all those invested in this battle.
HRC has consistently been a let down, but as an organization built some significant political capital. My disillusion with them is how poorly they have chosen to spend that which many of us have helped them build. And that not only includes the LGBT community but also our straight allies.

9. That's nice.
As a straight ally who has busted her ass lately (I was out doing anti-prop 8 stuff back when it was still a petition entitled "limits on marriage") I always love to hear that by virtue my orientation I'm not fit to do my part for equality, or that I have to do so in a behind-the-scenes way, or just write checks, or that maybe I can volunteer provided I keep my head down and stay quiet. Actually, it sounds disturbingly familiar.
I do think HRC is worse-than-useless, but the reasons for that have nothing to do with the orientation of their volunteers.
