Indicted U.S. Rep. William Jefferson suffered what may be the final blow of his storied political career in the most improbable way Saturday, when an untested Republican opponent took advantage of Louisiana's new federal voting rules -- and an election delay caused by Hurricane Gustav -- to unseat the nine-term Democrat.

With the upset victory, Anh "Joseph" Cao, a eastern New Orleans attorney who fled war-ravaged Saigon as a child, becomes the first Vietnamese-American in Congress. He will represent a district that was specifically drawn to give African-Americans an electoral advantage and one in which two of every three voters are registered Democrats.

U.S. Rep. William Jefferson addresses his supporters Saturday night. Jefferson, the first African-American to represent Louisiana in Congress since Reconstruction and a force on the local political stage for three decades, finished a close second among four general election candidates after beating back stiff challenges from within his own party during earlier rounds of voting.

Looks like many of the retards thought it would be too much trouble to vote.  The election was delayed because of Hurricane Gustav... lots of Obama voters decided to stay home.  We have a special election on January 22 to vote on an English-only proposition.  It will be interesting to see who makes it to the polls without the help of ACORN and La Raza.

Very pro amnesty.  Michelle Malkin has his very interesting biography.   Well worth the reading.

From what I can glean out of the Bio from Malkin, very much a RINO, but probably one of the sharpest RINOs out there.   Which might be a very bad thing or a very good thing.

Why is it that the GOP allows closet Dems to infiltrate the party ?? No wonder the GOP lost the election.  :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

The problem is we have a two party system.  That is the reality. except for very weird places !Dem= Rep.  Which seems to be the case here.  Jefferson was a corrupt looser who had to go, the Democrats wouldn't clean house internally (They seem unable to, which is their major deficiency, IMNHO) so Democrats who want change call themselves republicans for the short term, until the looser is bumped off.    I think the Gov of HI is  kind of similar.  For that matter, so is Arnold in CA.

Anyway, this guy seems to be a liberal I could like short term.  The house is just that little tiny bit less corrupt (If only some one could do this to Barney Frank!) and while not made perfect, the world is just a little better place.

Maybe there is a glimmer of hope for New Orleans. Maybe, with the ouster of William Jefferson, the people of New Orleans have given the rest of the nation a glimpse of their new direction. I hope so. It would be nice to see the people of New Orleans in total rebellion against the regime of *Chocolate* Ray Nagin and his band of crooks, incompetents and ne’er do wells next!

If Cao did support the Immigrant Dream Act and Amnesty, he is right in line with the Republican Party, not Conservatives, but the RNC itself.

Amnesty and The Dream Act are individual opinions, *Cold Cash* is a crook, plain and simple, this wasn't a *lesser of the evils*, this was the possibility of hope vs the ingrained corruption of Louisiana politics.

Cao ought to keep in mind that the Rep. term is only two years.

Despite the unabashed criminality of not only Jefferson himself but those of his family as well, he is still well-liked in his district. And the article makes no bones about it - had there not been such a poor voter turnout, Jefferson likely would've won.

The one thing that truly bothers me is this:

Quote
With the upset victory, Anh "Joseph" Cao, a eastern New Orleans attorney who fled war-ravaged Saigon as a child, becomes the first Vietnamese-American in Congress.

Is Cao Vietnamese or is he American?? Does he refer to himself as Vietnamese-American or as an American born in Vietnam, or OF Vietnamese decent?

Quote
There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all.

This is just as true of the man who puts “native” before the hyphen as of the man who puts German or Irish or English or French before the hyphen. Americanism is a matter of the spirit and of the soul. Our allegiance must be purely to the United States. We must unsparingly condemn any man who holds any other allegiance. ~Theodore Roosevelt~

Does Cao refer to himself as Vietnamese-American, or was it the idiot PC reporter at the newspaper?  My money is on the latter and not the former.

You have to wonder who we're getting our news from today...

And as academia is a great mecca for all thing liberal, little wonder that political correctness is a hallmark of liberalism.
