Poll question: How many people do you know who are in prison or who are ex-convicts?

What does this say about anything in particular for you?

Poll result (38 votes)
I do not know a prisoner or ex-con   (13 votes, 34%)   Vote
I know a prisoner   (0 votes, 0%)   Vote
I know an ex-con   (6 votes, 16%)   Vote
i know both a prisoner and an ex con   (5 votes, 13%)   Vote
i know several prisoners and/or ex cons   (14 votes, 37%)   Vote
other   (0 votes, 0%)   Vote

Personally, I don't know anyone who has ever been in prison.  I wouldn't consider spending a night in the drunk tank or getting a DUI "prison".  I'm looking forward to the DUmmies regaling us with tales of prison woe.

Sometimes when someone looks at me and says "Don't I know you from somewhere?,"  I'll reply "Have you ever been to prison?"  Usually good for a laugh or two.

Lots of families have a black sheep, 'knowing' someone who is or has been a prisoner is not all that unusual.  But since these are DUmmies, I expect the responses concern willing associations with drug dealers, illegal drug makers, and miscellaneous sneak thieves.

My uncle did 7 years for rolling up his car window on a guy's arm that tried to hit him and dragging him through six mailboxes and a telephone pole. Yes, it did involve drugs and money.  It's either a pure miracle or a pure shame he ain't dead, and to tell you the truth I don't know which it is.

I know of only 3 people that went to prison.

One for assaulting his Ex girlfriend

One for using an AR-15 to shoot up a neighborhood and an Sherriffs Deputies thumb off after breaking up with his girlfriend.

One for murder after seeing one guy hanging out with his soon to be ex wife.

Never would have guessed how two of them would have ended up but the first one probably was a given. I also know of a former classmate that was shot by the cops two years ago during a raid on his home to recover a stolen cops gun. To tell the truth the cops did society a favor.

I know of one...maybe two.  Both were friends of my kids, raised in homes that were alternately abusive and neglectful.  One I know went to prison for 2 years, he tried to rip off his sister's boyfriend by selling him shaved candle wax, went to prison for "dealing drugs."  The other, I'm not sure about...I heard he'd gotten into trouble, but not what or if it was just jail time.

6. I work with a couple of ex-cons
My direct superior is one, and until recently still had to wear an ankle bracelet

Where does he work? :o

BTW. Where is Joanne98 with her response in this thread? Her son is a convict.

I know a few guys who have done time in the county lock up.  One I think was for BnE.  The other for statutory rape (18 and 14).  Ahh...  high school friends for the lose.

Damn, all those people you know who went to prison did it over a relationship gone sour.

Heh....My ex-husband:

3 DUI's
Violation of Protection Order (3 instances, including the one when he tried to break into my house, which added an attempted Burglary to that case)
Assault on a Police Officer (2 charges, two different times)
Assault on the passenger of a car he bumped during his last DUI's

He served 15 months in jail, a year in rehab and is currently on 5 years probation. He has an 18 year jail sentence hanging over his head if he f*cks up again/violates the terms of his probation.

I've known a few people that have been to jail, including my Uncle.  I try not to judge, the vast majority that I've met were trying to straighten up their lives.

Well I only knew them as either classmates from school or like the one with the AR-15,he was someone from my old National Guard unit. I never ran with the former classmates now jail house interns. The guy that got shot for hanging with the other guys wife was killed witha Ruger .44 Magnum Rifle in the towns bowling alley in front of around 100 people. He was two grades ahead of me and one of the Schools better jocks. The guy that killed him was one of those quiet types and after his older brother had killed another guy, swore he would never end up like that.

Why does this guy read like someone I've seen on an episode of Cops ?
But to answer the question, personally, not beyond people who got to spend a night in the drunk-tank.
