Dad Has Teen Daughter Arrested for Punching Him

A 16-year-old Florida girl who hit her father when he tried to spank her has been charged with misdemeanor domestic battery.

An Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office report says the father told a deputy that he was attempting to spank the girl when she turned around and struck him in the face with her fist.

That was my first reaction.  At that age it is assault, not "spanking."  He might be in a lot of trouble when the investigation concludes.

Not sure about Florida, but in Texas, that wouldn't be an option. The Family Code defines a person as a "child" until they're 18, thus, a parent can use "reasonable discipline" to keep the kid in-line. Not that I'm an advocate of spanking a 16 year-old, but it wouldn't necessarily be illegal.

Ok...  Let me get this straight.

A parent attempts to impose discipline on a minor child (let me remind you all that "minor" in this country means under the age of 18), and some find the parent at fault?

Well I think it's the mode of discipline that's insanely creepy!  At 16, you ground kids, take the car/cellphones/ipods away.  Spanking though?  That's just, odd.  lol

I think today's 16 YOs aren't the same as yesteryear.  Spanking is reserved for very young children.  A man spanking a teenager, especially a female,  is creepy.  And ages of minority are more fluid than you think.

No, actually I threatened to beat the hell out of my kids when they were that age. I don't think "spanking" was what I had in mind though! When they're 16 I think it involves a FIST! Especially when my boy was 6 foot and weighed 200! The daughter only made me lose sleep.....  :-)

Luckily we never had to find out. I had good kids!!! Thank god!  :-)
