I read a letter to the editor of the Oregonian proposing that for the $$$ being spent bailing out these big banks, they could for less money give $100,000 to every US citizen. The writer went on to say that this would actually achieve the stimulus to the economy that all of these corporate give-aways are purported to accomplish. I'm no economist, but I agree.

We would buy a plot of land (20+ acres) and begin outfitting it for renewable energy. What would you do with that much tax-free $$$ handed to you?

No doubt they will all instantly talk about helping out those less fortunate in the world as poverty and starvation are rampant.

and wait. I'm to cheap to spend it now and the economy sucks to much to invest it, so i'd buy some gold...

8. Yup, pay my bills and put it into gold coins.
Maybe buy a new car that gets good gas mileage too.

That is how i would spend it. I do that. I spend money faster than I make it.

There is a surprise. :whatever:

5. BTW, the letter to the editor is mathematically incorrect.
$700,000,000,000.00 divided by 300,000,000 people is about $2300.00, not $100,000.00 per citizen.

Whoops.

In that case they probably will all offer to help out their fellow man here by pooling the resources.

Perhaps they will put together enough to buy the bobbling primitive the home she needs.

79. give it to every taxpayer, not every citizen

Sorry bobo.

I may have missed it but outside of a few moles or non primitives that don`t count I didn`t see one person on the thread suggest they would do anything for anyone else.
Funny how they talk about that a lot though.

Maybe I am being overly optimistic but isnt most of the 'bail out' funds being used to buy stocks in the troubled institutions?

In theory at least that means we should be paid back in time.

I'd use it to prop up the failing housing economy.  Real estate is prime in Michigan right now if you got that kind of cash.

Guns and ammo.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I would buy the contracts of one thousand hookers and form them into an elite urban strike team that fights crime.

Or, ya'know, just sit around mackin' it up and beating money out of them.

Either way it's a good investment.

Me too. I've always wanted to be a warlord. :-)

With enough guns, ammo, and 3 years of Osama's economic policies, I'll probably get my chance.

Yep, buy gold while gold is at or near it peak value is a really good idea. Just save yourself some time and flush a third of it right down the toilet.

Gold is acting kind of weird lately.  Read something on it rising and falling with the market instead of being the traditional hedge.
