justgamma (1000+ posts) Fri Nov-07-08 12:55 PMOriginal message Yay!! I'm no longer obese! Now I'm only overweight. I've lost 76# so far. I really am having trouble getting into the excersize groove though. I joined a small fitness center last month and only went once. I was so wrapped up in volunteering for Obama that I just didn't have time. I did manage to hit the streets several times canvassing.Does anyone else have trouble with the treadmill? I feel great while I'm on it. Not out of breath or anything. I'll slow way down at the end, but it doesn't matter. I get off and walk like a drunken fool. I can't keep my balance. Sort of like being dizzy. It's embarrassing.

I bet you feel so much better too. Exercise is my downfall. I think about it a lot. I just never do it. I'm lazy I guess. No excuse. I've wanted a treadmill for a long time but my husband says (he's probably right) that I won't use it and it would be a waste of money. I wanted to join curves but he said I could just go out walking instead So, here I sit. you're doing remarkably well.

I have an elliptical and a recumbent bike. They're not getting used much now but they have seen periods of daily use that lasted for months. Try Craig's list or see if you have any used sporting goods stores in your area (we have Play it Again Sports around here.) If you demonstrate that you really will use it, then maybe you can move up to a better one, if necessary.

Longhorn (1000+ posts) Fri Nov-07-08 10:59 PMResponse to Original message 4. Congratulations! I'm not that great at exercise but I have done it for long periods of time. I find that I have to schedule it and at the time when I'm most likely to do it -- not really early in the morning and not after I get home from work. Fortunately, I don't work a "9 to 5" job -- I teach part-time at community college -- so I have semester schedules that are perfect for exercising. I also watch television or movies while I exercise on my home gym, recumbent bike, or elliptical trainer. It helps the time pass more quickly.I can't say that I ever got addicted to it as some folks do but I did feel better about myself and saw results -- not so much on the scale but in my stamina and muscle strength. Good luck!

He humored me, said good job, keep going. Took the fun out of it.Doesn't it feel great! Everytime I lift a bucket of kitty litter I can't help but think that just six months ago, I was lugging that around on my fat ass. Now we've got to get through the holidays. How are we going to do it without blowing all the hard work?
justgamma (1000+ posts) Tue Nov-25-08 05:20 PMResponse to Reply #5 6. Black grapes. lol I'm a nibbler. I just love to open the fridge ten times a day and grab a bite of something. Especially turkey. Black grapes have been my salvation. They're sweet and a little crunchy and I can grab just one and go.It helps that my hubby doesn't like food. Never has. I'm trying to put weight on him. So I make 2 different meals a lot of the time so no big meals.I just saw my doctor. Last time I was down 40lbs and he said I "made his day" and gave me a hug. I couldn't wait for this appointment. (I love my doctor, he's the only doctor in this office who treats me like a real person.) He insisted that I had lost 7lbs. (It was 37). I tried to point that out to him, but he just didn't get it. Then he said, he was a little jealous, so I didn't push it. (He's pretty heavy). What a let down.

How can they even think of losing weight when there are homeless psychos out there with no affordable housing?! KC
