16. Remember what Joe Biden said

'Past is Prologue'. How about 'learn from history, or repeat it'?

Should we also be bored with talking about the Iraq occupation? Sure there's a difference, but....I don't think we should be forgetting about the Kennedy assassination. I sincerely doubt anybody my age could forget it if they wanted do. I still remember where I was when I heard about it. I remember the whole thing. And I still have a nagging feeling about it.

I recently read 'Oswald's Tale' by Norman Mailer. And I'm currently reading "Ultimate Sacrifice" by Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann. You know what? Even if you're tired of hearing about the Kennedy assassination (as I'm sure a lot of you will tell me), the cast of characters in that particular drama is fascinating. George DeMohrenschildt alone is worth the price of admission.

"History is Bunk" said Henry Ford. But ol' Henry was kind of an asshole, I hear....

23. I dont know if he was the man who pulled the trigger but he was certainly involved in planning it.

Think about this - the right-wing had as much to gain from JFK's assassination as LBJ did. Kennedy stood for everything that goes against the BFEE agenda. I mean look at the history of the BFEE - Prescott Bush was involved in a planned coup against FDR and wanted to install a fascist dictatorship in America.

And I'll even go as far as the Reagan attemp too. PNAC you know the usual suspects. If not our own government then why do the secret service stand down?

11. Thanks to our militarized government, obsessed with secrecy, we don't know for sure.

Oswald almost certainly fired the shot, but beyond that, it remains a mystery.

21. Oswald probably fired a shot. He almost certainly did NOT fire the fatal shot

Would have been impossible as the bullet came from exactly the opposite direction.

27. It was Oswald

Just looking at the evidence, it makes perfect sense.

People just like the conspiracy theories, because they don't like the idea that some lone nut can do that much damage.

The hilarious thing is that the Bush family of our generation is a family of boring bureaucrats.
No offense intended,I think both Presidents Bush did a fine job and history will someday agree but they are not the stealthy cigarette smoking man of X files lore.
The first President Bush was known as Mr Resume as he has spent a lifetime of service in the machinery of government, not as a mover and shaker or policy director.

Now as far as the issue goes...

President Kennedy would not be welcomed in the dem party of today,I have no reason to believe there was anyone other then Oswald acting alone but if that wasn`t the case what does it matter today other then to fuel the obsession of some.

There will be no other answer as most alive and of age to participate would have died by now.
It is a bit pointless to keep the thing going as so many do.

Generally, the "big" commemoration of an event peaks at circa the 20th or 25th year--for example, D-Day celebrations in 1964.  There were other commemorations after that, including 1984 and 1994, but they were lesser.  Of course, Dwight Eisenhower, Bernard Montgomery, and a whole slew of other famous personalities were still around then, and participated.

I've noticed the Kennedy assassination carried on a little longer, after which it began winding down, probably having something to do with the decline and death of Jacqueline Kennedy about the same time.  That yesterday was the 45th anniversary of the assassination was buried in the back pages of the Omaha World-Herald, for example.

Incidentally, some might remember that famous news photograph of Lee Harvey Oswald being shot by Jack Ruby, with that one law-enforcement guy wearing a cowboy hat leaning back in startlement.  That guy's still alive (he's 88 years old now), and there was a story about him in the newspapers.....in the back pages.

As most here know, John Kennedy and Barry Goldwater were good--and sincerely so--friends while both were in the U.S. Senate, and for some years thereafter.

Really close friends.

The problem was, the conservative Republican U.S. Senator from Arizona found the liberal Democrat U.S. Senator from Massachusetts to be an intellectual lightweight.

It is before my time as it happened but I heard Goldwater commenting on politicians of his day once and he really did have a fondness for JFK but despised LBJ.
The 64 election may have had something to do with that but as best as I can quote from memory his statement regarding Johnson....."he came to Washington without a dime in his pocket and left a multi millionaire on a Senators and Presidents salary"  the gyst being that he may not have come by his fortune ethically.

It's a piece of shit, but functional if maintained.  It comes in second to about every other 20th-Century bolt action rifle ever made.  The scope and mount on Oswald's gun were added commercial items, not original equipment.  Also difficult to even find ammo for one, the two main Italian WW2 rifle cartridges were unique to Italy, nobody else used them.  An often poorly-made Italian interpretation of the Austro-Hungarian Mannlicher design, the two virtues it would have had from Oswald's point of view were that the carbine version was shorter than about any other stock military surplus rifle and it was dirt cheap (though the ammo, not so much).

Was it a 6.5 ? If so, I may have had one back in the 60's. Lots of penetration with the steel jacket, parabellum military ammo.

Believe so, I don't think the 7.35 rifles were regarded as a success, and I think all the carbines (including Oswald's) were 6.5s.  It had kind of modest muzzle velocity for a battle rifle, but if you hit the target in the head that becomes a moot point.
