Prosecutor: Woman plotted hoax that led to suicide

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Missouri woman, her teenage daughter and an employee used an elaborate Internet ruse to terrorize a 13-year-old neighbor girl who later committed suicide, a federal prosecutor said Wednesday.

U.S. Attorney Thomas O'Brien told jurors during his opening statement that Lori Drew helped create a false identity on the social networking site MySpace. Posing online as a teenage boy, Drew befriended Megan Meier, he said.

The evidence will show that Drew opened the MySpace account and "fully intended to hurt and prey on Megan's psyche," O'Brien told jurors. Drew is accused of harassing Megan with cruel messages that ultimately led her to take her life in 2006.

They're charging her with fraud?  I guess that's the best the family can hope for if the state of MO won't press charges on some form of manslaughter or murder.

The St. Charles County DA, Jack Banas screwed it up. I agree, she should be charged with third degree manslaughter. I saw a recent photo of her and she kinda looks like Fred Phelps. Sad case no matter how you see it.

Saw that pic and she's looking very bad. I can't remember her looking that bad after all this was revealed.

I think they had to move out of their old neighborhood as everyone hated them so much. She lost her business. Not sure if she's still married.

She's one evil woman. Can't imagine how parents can get that involved in their children's lives.

They already moved out a couple months ago to California I think. She is still married as of right now, but they could divorce. If she is acquitted, she really has nowhere to go in the world and the only place she could go is probably join Westboro Baptist Church, but their future is not looking good either.

You know if the woman had any shreds of decency and said "Look I seriously messed up, I am sorry from the bottom of my heart and will always be ashamed of myself" it would be a little different.  Instead she went all "I don't care, I didn't do anything wrong" for months and months and that will make her always be labeled as a monster.  People with no personal responsibility make me want to bitch smack them through a wall. :hammer:

She is so immature for crying out loud. She is clearly a psychopath. God, it would suck having a mother or relative like Lori Drew.
