Saturday, Saturday, Saturday
« on: November 15, 2008, 09:16:04 AM »
Someone managed to send me a text message this morning that woke me up exactly 1 minute before my alarm was set to go off.  He has impeccable timing.

I'm here at my second job at the real estate office.  I brought a book to keep me occupied, because there's really nothing to do here for this job except sit here and look pretty.  :)

Anyone doing anything exciting today?

Another Saturday drawn in crayon colors, bordered in fluidity and smoke.  No common theme.  No blessing of predestiny.  Sustenance unremarkable with shades and hues undetermined.  Mortar and clay have more to offer the foundation of useless expectations.  Frozen smiles and fixed glad eyes remain unmoved.  Triad and Trinity must be duplicated.  The gates are open so none may be received.  Beware the Ides of November.

Texting in bed?  How "sexy".  Safe too.

A couple of texts and then there was a 30 minute phone call before I had to actually get out of bed and become presentable for work.

Just got back from finishing off some giftcards...now, to start work on that paper. :(  I'll eat lunch, then type a couple pages today, double spaced, and do one more tomorrow.

I got my flight itinerary from AA in the mail, as I am heading back to Shreveport for Thanksgiving.  Given my family's size, I'll be going to at least two different dinners.   :-)

You know, I haven't really even thought about Thanksgiving.  I don't know what I'm going to do.  Maybe I'll just have my dad over for the day and cook a little something.

My mancub nudged me awake at 9 and we had a big breakfast.  He's constructing some giant Star Wars battle scene out of legos in the living room right now. I think he may hang in his PJ's all day. :-)

The cats are gruntled because he gave them dry food this morning before waking me and they were sooooo obnoxious about bugging me to top it off with canned when I got up that I ignored them. There is much feline discontent right now.  They may go on strike and stop sleeping 22 and 1/2 hours a day in protest.

In the 30's here today with overcast and greyness.

Got no plans to do anything today.

Slept in until 7 this morning. Watched Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. Ate an unhealthy breakfast of Little Debbie Gingerbread Soft Cookies (hooray for Christmas treats!) and a can of soda. Now am pondering trip to Barnes & Noble. Wonders if I would get kicked out for going in my pj's and no shower. May scrap the trip if that's the case.

Nothing wrong with that.  My family's used to being rather unconventional when it comes to Thanksgiving.  When I was a kid, my mom, first stepdad, sis, and I would travel up to Arkansas every year for Thanksgiving (from Louisiana) and stay at a condo out on Lake Ouachita.  The building where we check in also housed a restaurant, which provided a GLORIOUS Thanksgiving feast (just as good as home-made, to be honest) for all those staying out there at that time.  It was SO worth it, and I'd go back again.  I have fond memories of stuffing myself with stuffing.  :-)  and the from-scratch pumpkin pies? Oh...mah...goodness! :o

We made the mistake of running out of cat treats several days ago.  Our tortoiseshell has been ignoring me, except for an occasional full-clawed swipe as I walk by...something she rarely does to me because she knows I'll respond.  Beyond that, she has been sulking by leaving hair all over my chair during the day.  (I don't know why it's my fault we're out of treats, I hardly even give them any anyway.   ::))

So yesterday, I remember cat treats along with the groceries, and give the other cat a couple while the tortoiseshell sits across the room glaring at me, refusing to come to "Kitty, Kitty" or any other call, and, when I finally just tossed one at her, she ran as though I'd attacked her.  Evidently, the cats communicated last night, because this morning, she has been continually underfoot.  I've stumbled over her a dozen times, each one met with purrs.   ::)  (Yes, I gave her a couple treats.  Dumb cat.)

 :-)

Beyond that, Mr Smith had teeth pulled yesterday, so keeping a quiet house and letting him sleep in.

Well, my mom has given up really cooking for Thanksgiving a few years ago.  I can go with my brother & SIL to her parents house.  I can't go to my Grandpa's this year with the damage from Ike.  I really honestly just don't feel like doing anything.  Oh, my dad may go to his sister's house, but I don't really want to do that either.

I think I'm going to try to talk my mom into making some dressing, she only can make it in a gigantic proportion.  Then maybe I'll cook some green bean casserole and a cornish game hen or chicken.  And spend the day quietly with the kitties.

I enjoyed it. He makes much of academia look like fools which always earns high marks in my book. I'm not a scholar of evolution or intelligent design so I can't speak to who is right or who is wrong in the debate. I think the point Stein is trying to deliver in the film is that there is not academic freedom taking place in our classrooms today. There is an unwritten code about what is "allowed" to be discussed in the scientic realm. If there are flaws in the theory of evolution, why shouldn't scientists be able to explore theories that might explain some of the holes in Darwin's theory?

I do kind of want to read up on the debate now so I guess the film did its job.

As far as today goes:  Since I didn't get home until after 1 am (swing shift) and didn't get to bed until after 3, I didn't get up until nearly 10.  That being said, I still finished laundry, cleaned kitchen and bathrooms, and vacuumed the house.  I'm putting off cleaning the hardwood floor in the dining room/entryway until tomorrow.

Too crappy to do yard work (foggy and misting) and get the leaves which have fallen in the back yard since Tuesday.  I might rake them tomorrow, or I might say to hell with it until spring.  Not that bad back there, really.

It's been forever since I went to Moat Mountain in North Conway (about an hour north of here).  Good day to just chill out, take a little drive up, get a couple of growlers of the best microbrews in NH, and enjoy them with a little fire as I finish off the latest DVD of Battlestar Galactica I got from NetFlix the other day.

As for Thanksgiving: It's just me, so I can either pull out the turkey breast I have in the freezer, or I was also thinking about volunteering at a soup kitchen that day.  I might not be able to bring much food, but maybe they could use the help.

Ahhh, I see.  I'll definitely have to watch it then.  I'm a science major (with a religious background  :uhsure: ), so I have seen the lack of academic freedom in regards to that subject first-hand.   :hammer:

My dad's been looking at townhouses and condos this last week, and he's got it narrowed down to two.  Surprisingly, a guy at work is selling his condo and my dad's thinking of buying it.  How funny!  I've never been there, but from the pictures it's BEAUTIFUL!  My dad has a few questions (like is the fridge staying) but I think he's going to put an offer on it.  The co-worker had completely remodeled it and he just did an amazing job on it, I was really surprised.

Anywho, so while my dad's not planning to divorce his wife, he's definitely not going to live with her.

Had a bummer of a day today.  Crappy weather this morning, wind and rain.  And the Tri-County Championship was this morning.  The Broncos lost.  :bawl:

The kids played great the 2nd half, but it was just too late...they got all up their heads the first half and just didn't play well.

Came home this afternoon and have just been hanging out.  Watched a couple movies on TV and putting together a slide show for the football banquet tomorrow.

I have a funny craving for Shake'n Bake.  I wonder if I can do a whole chicken.

I ran into someone at the store that I used to work with at Ford.  1200 people in a ten story building, and the guy remembers me.  :thatsright:

I didn't remember him until I walked in the door because he was in management and I never saw him.  He got the axe when they did a round of layoffs back in 2006.

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

Georgia Southern beat Furman in the annual rivalry 17-10.  That match-up is the kind you NEED to be at the stadium for.  When I went to the game a couple of years ago at Paulson Stadium, the atmosphere was electric.
