California enviro-whackos have already gotten legislation passed to ban waterfowl hunting with lead shot. MN has, too. The alternatives aren't as good or accurate and are extremely costly.

There is a legit concern with waterfowl, but it's the effect on the waterfowl in heavily hunted areas, not an issue of secondary effects on humans.  Besides, mere facts have never stood in the way of the EPA before.

Shit where you been. Non toxic shot has been required for years now. NC since the 80's. I don't know about others, but for waterfowl you haven't had a choice in years

Good point, but the non-lead shot has a similar effect in that regard.  The spent shot lands in the shallows where the birds feed, and gets in their food chain, which does poison them.  Haevy metals don't accumulate in muscle tissue though so even if the ducks experience some toxicity from it, there isn't much of any effect of people eating them.

It's been 20 years since we've been saddled with steel shot. I can't tell you how many waterfowl I've taken with old bruises from steel shot that bounced off.
The alternatives are pretty good. Heavy Shot works as well as lead as does and  Tungsten also.
The price isn't too bad...............................if you like paying $20 for a box of 10 shells    :bawl:
