My College Age Son Says He Wants to Vote for Barack Obama! WTF?
« on: November 03, 2008, 05:38:17 AM »
OMG!  My 23-year-old college age son told me yesterday he is thinking of voting for Obama.  When I asked him why, he said John McCain's temper makes him "uncomfortable."  WTF?  He lives in Indiana. When I told my husband this, he actually said maybe he needs to go to Barack Obama to get the tuition for his last semester of college then because Barack Obama will be wiping us out financially.  He lives in Indiana and we know what's going on there.

I'm going to send him an e-mail today laying out exactly why he should NOT be voting for Barack Obama - any suggestions?  I have plenty of examples for him but the e-mail has to be short and sweet because I know he skims over the long ones.

He's getting ready to graduate from college in the spring ~ how can he not realize how much this election affects his near future?

My 23-year-old college age son .........

You can't tell a 23 year old anything -- they are more nuanced than we are mom, surely you know that!

9/11 occured because of a president who is half the leftist appeaser that obama is.   Tell your son to start working out now cause the draft will soon be upon him so he will need to be in his best shape to ship out.

Well, he can know that when double digit inflation hits, he better have some of that student loan money left to pay for groceries, gas, etc. Might wanna convey that to him. Also other points such as his "civilian military force", meeting unconditionally with the nutjob in Iran, etc.

Send him some of the stuff of Barack's involvement with ACORN and the housing situation. Those things have directly impacted the economy and his future since the longer baby boomers can't retire with crappy returns on retirments savings, the harder it will be for new graduates like him to get a job. Thanks Barack! :whatever:

McCain's temper...you know, that was an issue for me when he was in Arizona too, but it is important to remember that he will be surrounded by competent(we would expect) cabinet members and a capable VP. For all his 'temper', McCain has held a Senate seat for years in a state that has seen leaps and bounds in growth for the last 20 years: Arizona. That character quality alone given how shady Obama is should not disquality him from the presidency. Hell, it can't even be determined if Obama is even legal to run for president. I'm not sure if that concerns him that Obama may not potentially even meet qualifications. What kind of quandry will that create if it is discovered AFTER he is elected that this is indeed true? I'm sorry, but a presidential candidate should have some transparency at the very least in his qualifications. These things should concern your son if nothing else compared to an immeasurable quality like temperament especially given the person in question has managed his 'temperament' for many years as a national figure.

Just a few thoughts.

You can try, but don't make yourself crazy about it.  That age is still in the 'know it all' phase many times.  Anything you say will have to resonate with his youth or money prospects.  Best of luck!

I like his Dad's idea.  Don't try to tell him who to vote for, just tell him that IF Obama gets elected, the gravy train has left the station without him on board.  If that happens you can expect a merely 'troubled' business climate to go downhill like a bobsled with a JATO pack, and household energy costs to go through the roof.  Charity begins at home.

Tell him that Obama has a great idea, "Spread the wealth around". Explain how for the last 23 years, and especially the last few, he's been getting more than his fair share of the wealth. So, you and pop have decided to cut him off until you catch up in the "Spreading the wealth around" department, gonna get new car and pickup, some new furniture, maybe remodel the house even though you can't afford it since he and others his age are going to be paying off the debts of those that couldn't afford houses anyway.

....then go slap his socialist professors.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

That sounds like a good idea...especially since he has not had to take out loans for school.  Mom and Dad have paid for it with the very clear understanding that this was our contribution to the beginning of his adult life and making his own way in the world without starting out with school loans.   We are already feeling the pinch of the possibility of a Barack presidency.  I have my own small business and have lost some clients recently and have not made an effort to replace them yet because of the tax implications with an Obama presidency as my income puts us over the ever-moving definition of "rich," according to Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

Speaking of socialist professors - he had one last semester.  He had to write a midterm paper on Marxism and, coincidentally, he wrote his with the slant that he did not approve (hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm - maybe that's my opportunity to teach him this very important lesson) of Marxism and the professor gave him a "D."  This young man is a 3.6 GPA student and that would have dropped his grade so he ended up dropping the class after because this grade was so heavily weighted.

So he's had his experience with a socialist professor.  I think this might be the perfect example for him.

Whatever you son thinks his reasons for voting for Obama might be 5 mins of research will prove:

A) There is no record of Obama delivering on the promise

B) Obama has done the exact opposite when he has had the chance to act

Obama studied under Saul Alinsky who taught his students to be politically vague so they could appear to be all things to all people just so they could gain power and then enact their socialist dreams. Obama is a game-player, expose him as such.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

My son (19) who is going to college in Cleveland hasn't told me who he is voting for but I have a strange feeling he might not vote for McCain.  He mad a comment about Palin being a "ditz" after the VP Debate.  I did explain to him that the media is against her and is giving that impression and I have told him why I wont be voting for Obama.  He is a very smart kid and never one to "go with the crowd" so I do have hope.  I helped him get registered (here in Texas while he was in Clelveland) and how to vote absentee so it is beyond our control.  He still is the same kid no matter who he votes for so I'm not even going to ask.  I don't want to know.  I can't imagine him voting for Obama with the views he has stated in the past but never say never.

If he did vote for Obama I can only hope he is one of the people that in their 20's are a liberal because he has a "heart" but eventually grows into his "brain".

I actually thought about that.  After he registered here in Texas he said that someone (who did happen to be from ACORN) told him he only had to live in Cleveland 30 days to register there.   :p

I'm in Texas and he goes to school in Indiana, where I grew up.  Indiana needs all the McCain votes they can get right now but I'd be shocked to see Indiana go for Obama.  I'm sure it doesn't matter, but I don't know anyone in my family or my friends from Indiana who are voting for Barack Obama (unless my son does  :thatsright:) which may just say more about my friends and family than the Hoosier State.

Yes, North Dallas area.  My husband's cousin and her family lives in Austin (they support McCain).  Perhaps I can introduce you too her if you feel all alone in Liberal Austin.   :p

I grew up in the "People's Republik of Austin".  I know just how you feel.  They really need to shut down that little liberal arts college downtown (t.u.).   :-)

My son almost attended that little liberal college in downtown Austin.  He decided to go back to Indiana (where David Shuster went to college).

Well, ask him if he would like to 'share' some of his fantastic GPA with someone who hasn't worked as hard ..... you know, so they can pass too.

Hey, looks like he has plenty to spare and he really needs to help those (in Baracks own words) coming up behind him!

Funny, that's exactly the example I used to explain socialism to my son :cheersmate:
Destroy all that which is evil, so that which is good may flourish

Women and children are precious resources to be protected at all costs.  Men are expendable commodities whose function is to protect those resources, at all costs.

So how does it feel to know that someone's kid in the heart of america has blood on their hands to defend your rights so you can maintain a lifestyle that insults his family's existence?

I have heard that one many, many times and it fits perfectly for those in school who are working hard and EARN their grades.  It is very simple for them to understand and they are on the ground, so to speak, and see what those who are getting poor grades are doing with THEIR free time.
