Lately, as my children get older, the big discussion in our house is where will they go to college?  It costs a small fortune to send your kids to college and there aren't that many good choices if you have conservative leanings.  My husband found this 10 part video on youtube that was featured on WNYC last night in NYC.  It is just horrible what these institutions are like.  If you are a conservative, you will be called racist, a Nazi, a bigot, sexist, homophobic, etc.  They will do anything on campus to shut you up.

In another thread, one of our members was given a tough time on her campus for her conservative views and this is not an isolated incident.

I wanted to get the DVD, but it costs $22, so I've been watching each part on youtube.

Most of the ones like Hillsdale College in Michigan and Patrick Henry are conservative and Christian.  What if you are not of that religious persuasion?  I guess you are out of luck.  I'm not sending my kids some place where liberal ideologies are going to be thrown down their throats.

My brother and I have been talking about this very thing.  Both of us are convinced that our kids shouldn't go straight into college from high school because they won't get as much from it.  The military is one option, as is working for a few years.

Regarding this subject, if the kids are coming in with a few years' in the "real world", they'll have the experience to negate most of the liberal dogma thrown their way.

Those who see their lives as spoiled and wasted crave equality and fraternity more than they do freedom. If they clamor for freedom, it is but freedom to establish equality and uniformity. The passion for equality is partly a passion for anonymity: to be one thread of the many which make up a tunic; one thread not distinguishable from the others. No one can then point us out, measure us against others and expose our inferiority.

Last time I checked, my alma mater Pepperdine, is still staunchly Conservative.

It takes a bit of doing but it is worth the work, I can tell you!

Thanks for posting! I had bookmarked the site and was doing to go back to see when it was released.
I can see November 2 from my house!!!

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I'm glad you mentioned this.  I took this route in a roundabout way.  I went to college straight out of high school and I had no idea what I wanted to do.  After going for 2 years, I was completely unhappy because I didn't want to be a hippy like the majority of the campus.  I wasn't into the binge drinking and everytime I went to visit a friend, they'd take out another joint.  I guess my research into this school wasn't very good.   Anyway, I ended up taking a leave and went to work.  I loved it.  I was with "normal" people who were just focused on making a living.  Ultimately, I did go back to school (not to the same one) at night and continued to work during the day.  I feel I might have gotten more out of the academic portion, if I had been able to spend more time on it, but at the same time I didn't want to deal with the campus life and at that point I was a bit older than the other students so nothing truly was lost.

Military is an option too, but that is up to the kids.  But that life experience is the best "school."  Can kids get a fair chance at college if they don't go to college right out of high school?

I'm pretty sure they can; they've got both 'diversity' and 'real world experience' going for them.  However, I'm not 100% confident on that; they'll definitely have to answer the "why not earlier" questions.

I was in college with a couple of older folks, and with 20-20 hindsight, they have much more of a clue than I did.
