It's the carpetbagging maternal ancestress, the "Raven" primitive, the mother of the Bostonian Drunkard speaking.

I can't hear, and her face is sort of blackened out, making trying to "read" her impossible.

In a sentence or two, can someone tell me what she's yapping about?
