Syria: US choppers attack village near Iraq border
« on: October 26, 2008, 04:48:02 PM »
DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) - U.S. military helicopters attacked territory inside Syria close to its border with Iraq Sunday, killing eight people in a strike the Syrian government condemned as "serious aggression."

A U.S. military official said the raid by special forces targeted the foreign fighter network that travels through Syria into Iraq in an area where the Americans have been unable to shut it down because it was out of the military's reach.

"We are taking matters into our own hands," the official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the political sensitivity of cross-border raids.

The attack came just days after the commander of U.S. forces in western Iraq said American troops were redoubling efforts to secure the Syrian border, which he called an "uncontrolled" gateway for fighters entering Iraq.

Working hteory is it was bigtime AQI leader to risk the pre-election headlines of crisis-rigging.

Lots of AQI leaders have bit the dust in the last 2 weeks. Whatever this was it couldn't have been put off until after the election making it a big fish.

I wonder why DU hasn't chimed in yet?

Guess Syria shouldn't let al Qaeda run back and forth across their border with Iraq.

Syria  has allowed terrorists to run freely across their border into Iraq since 2003, why should they change anything now?? Of course they're going to whine about us taking action they refuse to take. I kind of recall their President saying that this wasn't happening, but anybody with a lick of sense knows it was. Lord knows how many of Saddam's WMDs they "inherited".

Makes you wonder what exactly Bella Pelosi was doing in Syria after the Democrats won the 2006 elections.
I fully believe she asked Syria and Hamas to hold off on attacking U.S. interests and Israel until their guy (Obama) was in the White House then they could have at it.
As Biden has already stated, "Obama will be tested and most Americans will NOT agree with his decisions".

Hold on to your asses because this nation is going to be ****ed like nothing before in her history.

The DoD is stating that the head of a Al-Qaeda's arms-smuggling ring, from Syria into Iraq, was smoked.

Freedumb, if you are going to point out a suspected dupe, the very least you could do is provide a link the the other thread....... I browsed the first three pages of the more prominent places this would have been posted, no joy.

Seems like they are also missing a nuclear facility that mysteriously disappeared last year.......replaced by a smoking crater........they just aren't having a good year......

Different clever post. I searched my posts with my special "only show me the clever ones" filter -- but it listed all my posts except the prayer ones.

I tried to turn the clever off, but my laptop kept rebooting, so I am stuck with them.
