"State and local officials are investigating if state and law-enforcement computer systems were illegally accessed when they were tapped for personal information about "Joe the Plumber."

Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher became part of the national political lexicon Oct. 15 when Republican presidential candidate John McCain mentioned him frequently during his final debate with Democrat Barack Obama.

The 34-year-old from the Toledo suburb of Holland is held out by McCain as an example of an American who would be harmed by Obama's tax proposals.

Public records requested by The Dispatch disclose that information on Wurzelbacher's driver's license or his sport-utility vehicle was pulled from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles database three times shortly after the debate.

Information on Wurzelbacher was accessed by accounts assigned to the office of Ohio Attorney General Nancy H. Rogers, the Cuyahoga County Child Support Enforcement Agency and the Toledo Police Department.

Okay, colorl me ignorant; what part of it would be a Federal crime?  I know it would be a state crime if it could be proven.

I do freely admit that I am not totally up to speed on all Federal crime issues when it comes to computer related crime.

Not so much computer as civil rights, privacy and abuse of power.

Another website is reporting not only did the go after him via the DMV and IRS but family services as well.

Ahhh, I see; a Federal crime as far as civil rights violation.  You have a pretty good point there.  You definitely have good point as far as the abuse-of-power.

They're setting up the "No Questions Asked" Hussein presidency. They have been for quite a while now. It started with playing the race card against anyone who dares challenge The Chosen One. Now they've segued to attempting to destroy dissenters through invading their personal lives. This will go on constantly if he gets in office. If not through official channels, through the goons like MoveOn and their minions on the Net. All with a wink and a nod from his handlers and their willing accomplices in the MSM. It will have a chilling effect on a lot of people wanting to speak out publicly.

I think that the Privacy Act of 1974 MIGHT come into play. Those people pretty much ignored that. Of course, with the exception of the military, many folks don't even know about that piece of legislation.
