Lawn Signs and the Mail Route.
« on: October 23, 2008, 07:21:19 PM »
Not a bouncy, just an observation here in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

As Ive mentioned before, Im just your friendly neighborhood mailman. Nothing more. The route I deliver is just outside a large Massachusetts city. In terms of income, It's mostly a middle class route, with homes built circa 1960 to McMansions slapped together last week. Out of boredom, I decided to play count the lawnsigns (since legally I can do that, vs playing count the political letters which is all sorts of Privacy Act violating bad.)

The ratio is eleven to one... With McCain taking the lions share. IN MASSACHUSETTS.

Several of the signs were the 'Country First' variety. PUMA power ? absolutely.

I'm not saying that the commonwealth is a swing state, but I am saying that even here, hope is not lost. Don't buy the polls.

That's encouraging news, miskie.

In 2004, I tallied up all of the Bush and Kerry bumper stickers I saw as I drove to and from work everyday. Bush had the clear edge there. But all of the polls showed Kerry with the lead right up to the election. I was pleasantly surprised when Bush won the election outright that year.

I haven't done a tally this year simply because there are hardly any cars with political bumper stickers on them in the Phoenix area. A sprinkling here and there but that's it. You would think The Messiah would have at least a few more proud supporters but they don't.

I've been seeing the same thing here.  It seems to be evenly divided between Obama and McCain/Palin stickers.  Almost zero pre-Palin McCain stickers.

I have seen maybe 3 or 4 McCain/Palin signs in yards around here, no Obama signs at all, no bumperstickers aside from one Obama one on moon-mobile.  (It had more than a dozen bumper stickers...and I see the driver, it works at Wal-Mart, total 'bat...to the point that I'm sure it's female while Mr Smith is sure it's male.) Anyway, lots and lots of local signs, but very close to nothing presidential.  Way, way different than '04.   :clueless: :clueless:

It's difficult to determine around here, in rural and small-town Nebraska.

Nebraskans have never been big on yard signs and bumper-stickers unless it's a close race.

There's lots and lots of yard signs, but 99% for minor offices (city council whatnot).

There used to be a few Big Zero bumper-stickers, but they're rarer now than they had been.

The yard sings average about the same here. I just love it though around Grandview drive where a lot of the 500K+ homes are... there's a few Obama signs here and there in front of close to or more million dollar homes. Kind of messed up, huh?

Observation in central OH--Mccain/Palin signs VASTLY outnumber the big O's. In our circle of about 80 something homes there are 3 Obama signs and about 20 McCain/Palin signs. It is like that around most of the city. We've had volunteers though out on the main stretch every weekend with the signs though and you sign up on the volunteer roster to get them. I should point out though that in our county and/or district, the conservative candidate for legislature usually wins by about 65 % or so. :evillaugh:

South Central MO (rural) - Handful of Obama signs.  Hundreds of McCain-Palin signs.
