Why not split the Republic in two?
It seems to me that we are two nations, two cultures, two world views, hopelessly locked into a failed marriage. When Governor Palin spoke about the 'pro-america' parts of the country, the regions that support 30 years of Republican Failure and want More, she spoke from her heart. In her world view, her supporters are the 'real americans' and the rest of us are not.

For the last month we have watched as the failed McCain Palin Campaign has toured the country fostering hate and divisiveness, positioning this election as 'us' against 'them', not as a contest of ideas and issues, but of otherness. There are real americans and then there are those others who are voting for the socialist terrorist muslim n* Obama. The campaign has also pre-emptively set the stage for declaring the results fraudulent with their bogus Acorn issue.

How does such a campaign not result in a dysfunctional Republic as an end result? How do the losers of this election, not declare the results null and void?

So why continue with this nonsense? Why not accept that the divisions are real and irreconcilable? Shouldn't we be discussing how the separation would work?

A people... who are possessed of the spirit of commerce, who see and who will pursue their advantages may achieve almost anything.

GEORGE WASHINGTON, letter to Benjamin Harrison

"Democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where 51% of the people may take away the rights of the other 49%."

When there are more people in the cart than pulling it, there is a lot to be said for just stopping pulling and telling everyone to get the hell out.

I don't know where to locate the lazy ones -- The desert states are all pretty much red (as is of course Alaska).  Mayve we put them all between California and Hawaii?  Or NY and Puerto Rico?

I'm fine with letting them have the NorthEast, Illinois, and California.  We can just keep "the flyover country."   :hyper:  :-)

We can just divide it red/blue by county.  Then sell them potatoes for a buck apiece, coal for $600/ton, wood for $20/board, beef by the ounce....

That's cool and all, but the 101st is a little further down the road from Tacoma. I'd say about 2000 miles Southeast in Clarksville, Tn.

Make that Crook County/Chicago only.  In central Illinois, we have quite a few conservatives.

You know, the primitive who originally lit this bonfire was Freudianly revealing.

I thought the Big Zero's supposed to be the "uniter."

I thought the Big Zero already has the election in the bag.

If the Big Zero already has it in the bag, and is a "uniter," what's this deal about splitting up the country?

Methinks the primitives are starting to get nervous.

And with very good reason.

I'm for it.  Of, course returning to a true republic of republics would be better, but since we can't get there from here an amicable split would be better.

Since there's some Democrats and liberals I can stomach (as friends, not anyone I'd vote for), this might be too drastic.

I always liked my thought about shipping all of the primitives to Vermont, which has been irretrievably ruined anyway, and getting all of the decent and civilized people out of that state.

A "transfer of populations," something frequently done by primitive icons such as Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Lenin, Ho, Fidel, the little guy up there in North Korea, Saddam Hussein, the crazy guy in Teheran, Mugabe, &c., &c., &c.

So surely the primitives wouldn't have any problems with this.

And then after all the primitives are collected in Vermont, and all the decent and civilized people out, tying the state behind a barge to tow it through the St. Lawrence Seaway out into the ocean, after which it would be docked in Cuba or North Korea.

This would create a big lake, and all the decent and civilized people who once lived in Vermont would be recompensed with prime lakefront real-estate in New York, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.

Everybody'd be better off, and happier.

Or, failing that, given that Vermont has been irretrievably ruined anyway, while the fragile ecosystem of Nevada still has a chance to survive, moving all the decent and civilized people out of Vermont, and then using that state as a testing-ground for nuclear weapons, giving the fragile ecosystem in Nevada a chance to recover.

I say we give them whatever region they want. We declare war on their sector, take them all  as prisoners, execute them for war crime and live happily ever after.
